ABORIGINAL SUPPORT WORKER

NANNUP THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY

About the Role:

The Aboriginal Support Worker will provide yarning, mentoring, interactive therapeutic activities, education, mediation, and support to residents in a residential setting. They will also develop relationships with Aboriginal communities in the Great Southern and South-West regions. They will promote Cyrenian services and develop Elder groups who can advise and support the programs offered by Cyrenian House.

The position is offered as a full-time role working 76 hours per fortnight and is located at our Nannup TC in the Southwest, surrounded by natural bushland.

Cyrenian House considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under section 50d of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).  Level 4/5 $93,490-$110,413 per annum.

Cyrenian House provides a wide range of high-quality treatment services that make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by alcohol and other drugs.  

 

To be appointed / successful in this role, you will require the following key qualifications, skills, and experience:

  •  Have a Certificate III in Community Services and AOD and/or experience in working with Aboriginal people in an AOD service (minimum). 
  • Possess a sound knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Have demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Take an active role in Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Demonstrated and well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • Current National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, and First Aid Certificate.

Desirable:

  • Have an understanding of the 12-step philosophy and “Community as a method Treatment Model”.
