About the Role
The Safety & Compliance Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and continually improving safety and compliance systems across the organisation’s national road transport and warehousing operations.
The role ensures full compliance with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, the Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code, HACCP food safety requirements, and AQIS/Biosecurity controls, while driving a strong, proactive safety and compliance culture across all business units.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and manage Work Health and Safety, Heavy Vehicle National Law & Chain of Responsibility, Dangerous Goods Storage and Transport, HACCP and Food Safety, AQIS and Biosecurity Policies and Procedures.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety, Heavy Vehicle National Law & Chain of Responsibility, Dangerous Goods Storage and Transport, HACCP and Food Safety, AQIS and Biosecurity.
- Provide training and support to staff on health and safety practices and procedures.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, preparing detailed reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor and report on health and safety performance metrics to management.
- Collaborate with various departments to promote a culture of safety within the organisation.
- Prepare monthly compliance, incident, and risk reports for senior management.
- Stay updated on changes in legislation and best practices in health and safety.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the Transport industry.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct training sessions and workshops effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and health and safety management software.
