Purpose of the Position

The Domestic Violence Specialist’s primary role is to enhance the focus of service delivery on family violence by ensuring colleagues have heightened awareness and knowledge and clients are receiving appropriate support.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work as part of the Family Wellbeing team, providing domestic and family violence advice and assistance to colleagues to ensure awareness of the impact of violence on the work they do
  • Assess referrals and screen for domestic and family violence and ensure risk assessments are undertaken and safety plans developed when violence is identified
  • Contribute to and review case plans for implementation of family violence safety plans and therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide colleagues with advice on safety planning including safe engagement and risk management strategies for families affected by domestic and family violence
  • Participate in home visits where appropriate and work jointly with FWB colleagues to ensure support needs of the family are met
  • Assist with assessment of client needs and decisions regarding case management and referral pathways
  • Participate in local family violence networks and maximize service capability in partnership with local domestic and family violence services
  • Develop formal partnerships to enhance service delivery and develop and maintain referral pathways to specialist family violence support services
  • Contribute to the documentation and continual improvement of the Family Wellbeing-Family Violence service model
  • Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQS)
  • At all times work within CQID’s Workplace Health & Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Executive Officer

Qualifications and Experience

  • Holds a current C Class Queensland Driver’s Licence
  • Tertiary qualifications in human services or relevant discipline
  • Current Working with Children Check, “Blue Card”
  • Experience at successfully collaborating with and developing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff members
  • Holds or is willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Experience at successful service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in family violence service delivery
  • Knowledge and experience in child protection settings and practice
