BuildSkills Australia (BuildSkills) is the national Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) for the Construction, Property and Water industries, established by the Commonwealth Government to work with industry to find solutions to workforce challenges. BuildSkills brings together stakeholders in a tripartite approach to solve problems collaboratively. We are an active partner in the national conversation around jobs and skills, listening to industry and translating their concerns into evidence-based policy and program responses.

About the Position

The National Manager, Water Sector Industry Engagement plays a critical role in driving BuildSkills Australia’s (BSA) engagement strategy within the Water sector. This position reports to the Executive Director, National Industry Engagement and is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including industry associations, employers, training providers, and government agencies. The incumbent will actively monitor industry trends, identify key challenges and opportunities, and develop innovative initiatives to support BSA’s strategic objectives within the Water sector.

As a valued member of the BuildSkills team, the National Manager, Water Sector Industry Engagement will be accountable for on-the-ground stakeholder engagement for national coverage of the Water Sector. They will work with the other State Managers Industry Engagement, and the Executive Director, National Industry Engagement to shape the strategic direction of BSA’s engagement strategy and implement it by building strong and lasting relationships with key stakeholders.. The person will also be responsible for providing input into the strategy, as required.

The National Manager Water Sector Industry Engagement will be critical in eliciting and capturing stakeholder insights and reporting these back to relevant BSA team members. They will work closely with the Training Product and Project, and Workforce Planning, Intelligence and Data team to inform training package and workforce planning activities.

Duties and Selection Criteria

• Develop and implement strategic engagement plans for key stakeholders within the Water sector

• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders (across industry organisations, unions, employers, government and the VET system) for the Water sector– ensuring coverage of all states and territories

• Execute engagement plans to identify industry trends, skills shortages, training needs and emerging technologies, aligned to BuildSkills’s strategic priorities

• Monitor and analyse industry intelligence to identify key challenges and opportunities

• Gather and synthesise industry insights to inform BSA’s strategic direction and program development

• Represent BSA at industry events, conferences, and forums.

• Capture, record and disseminate key industry insights to relevant stakeholders within BSA

• Regularly reports on the Water sector industry performance and communicate this with the Executive Director Industry Engagement

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams within BSA, such as Training Products & Projects and Research & Planning, to support the successful delivery of BSA projects

Our ideal candidate will have experience

• Proven experience in industry engagement, stakeholder management, or business development within the Water sector and VET sectors.

• Strong understanding of the Australian vocational education and training (VET) system.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Project management skills and experience.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• High level of initiative and proactiveness
