Broken String Biosciences is seeking a Field Application Scientist (FAS) to support customers adopting INDUCE-seq. Broken String Biosciences is advancing more precise, safe, and effective cell and gene therapies through its cutting-edge technology platforms. The company’s core platform, INDUCE-seq, was developed as the new gold standard for precise mapping of DNA breaks to measure and quantify on- and off-target genetic edits, crucial for ensuring the efficacy and safety of advanced therapies from discovery through commercialization.
The Field Application Scientist works in close collaboration with the sales team to support new and existing customers in the INDUCE-seq platform in the Western US Region. The ideal candidate is well versed in gene editing methods including CRISPR, CRISPRx, and base editing technologies as well as the current methods for safety assessment. You are assisting the customers in their journey of adopting new disruptive technology for safety assessment for on- and off-target characterization.
You will provide scientific consultative support enabling our customers to successfully adopt our INDUCE-seq platform. You will support the sales team by providing pre-sales technical presentations and qualifying the customer’s goals as a good fit for use of INDUCE-seq technology. Post sales activities include on-site hands-on training, design of experiments and running the assay, and training on the INDUCE-seq analysis software to confidently nominate the off-targets.
You will travel to customer sites within the Western US region, with occasional trips to company headquarters in Cambridge UK. This role requires establishing trust with customers which will translate into long lasting relationships at the accounts. You along with the sales team take ownership of each customer relationship to drive for growth in the region.

- During post sales FAS plans and executes customer onboarding of INDUCE-seq platform (experimental design, workflow guidance, and hands-on training of assay and training on the INDUCE-seq analysis cloud-based software pipeline).
- Troubleshooting across the workflow, by assisting customers with cell confluence/quality and time point selections → library prep → sequencing → analysis. Customer escalations are resolved quickly, with root-cause documentation feeding back into better playbooks and product improvements.
- Guide customers through analysis of their data: on-target and off-target nomination lists, mismatch plots, induce break plots, and usage INDUCE-seq analysis software pipeline.
- Partner with Product Managers and Marketing team to create scientific content that accelerates INDUCE-seq adoption. Contribute on customer facing documents including: application notes, presentation slides, troubleshooting guides, user-guides, conference posters and webinars.
- Provide Voice-of-Customer feedback, new application requests as well as competitor intelligence. Working closely with Sales and Product Management this information helps drive new product development, and product improvements.

- Excellent communication skills: can explain complex science clearly to both bench scientists and bioinformatics stakeholders.
- Experience in working with a global team and different time zones. FAS is the bridge between internal teams and the customer. FAS needs to easily communicate with Product Management, R&D, Sales, and Quality to ensure customer success.
