  • We offer the following Montessori programmes:
  • • Montessori Independent Toddler Community (MITC) 15 months – 3 year olds
  • • Children’s House (3 – 6 year olds)

  • • Secondary School (12 – 18 year olds)
  • Our school follows the Montessori National Curriculum and is fully mapped to the Australian Curriculum, providing a child-centred pedagogical model that caters to individualised and independent learning while respecting the child’s social, emotional, and intellectual development.
  • Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • • Lead a Montessori Children’s House classroom for children aged 3 – 6
  • • Deliver Montessori curriculum in a prepared environment
  • • Observe, assess and document student learning
  • • Develop individual learning plans
  • • Prepare student reports
  • • Communicate with families
  • • Supervise classroom assistants
  • • Maintain child safety and wellbeing
  • • Comply with school and regulatory requirements
  • These are the prime responsibilities of your role and it may be requested of you from time to time to conduct additional tasks within the school.
  • GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Typical duties include:
  • • Motivating, developing, guiding, teaching and mentoring pupils in a peaceful environment using Montessori philosophy
  • • Presenting Montessori lessons and ensuring that students are engaged in purposeful work, especially during the work period
  • • Presenting Montessori work to students daily using the Montessori National Curriculum, Australian Curriculum, and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)
  • • Development and maintenance of Quality Improvement Plan (QIP)
  • • Ensuring the safety and well-being of pupils under your care and ensuring no accidents/incidents occur
  • • Reporting any incidents/accidents, either positive or negative, which could have a bearing on the environment or school to the Head of School/Principal in a timely manner (close of day at latest)
  • • Ensuring the school Ethos is practiced and maintained at all times
  • • Ensuring that the classroom and equipment are well kept, maintained, cleaned and materials are in place at all times and at the end of day
  • • Ensuring that the toilet and veranda areas are clean and tidy and that paper, sharpened pencils, crayons, paints, soap, toilet paper, towels etc. are available before school begins
  • • Assisting younger children with their personal cleanliness
  • • If you have a planned/unplanned absence, leaving instructions and work for the relief teacher (and assisting them with the particulars of the room and students)
  • • Consulting the Director of Student Support if student additional needs are identified and outside agencies referrals are recommended
  • • Using your skills and experience to plan for, record and implement adjustments to support the learning of identified students with additional educational needs
  • • To maintain confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the school’s Privacy Policy
  • To conduct the following regularly:
  • • Making regular annotated observations to guide each child’s emotional, physical, social and intellectual development
  • • Recording presentations and work in Transparent Classroom
  • • Reporting any item that has gone missing or needs repair immediately
  • • Writing up behavioral incidents via the Behaviour Incident form
  • • Writing up accidents/injury incidents via the Accident/Injury form
  • • Updating records of work
  • • Attending meetings as required (including fortnightly Wednesday School Development Discussions and Friday morning alternating whole school and plane meetings)
  • • Attending workshops/in service training in line with your personal professional development plan and those provided by the school
  • • Completing progress reports in Term 2 and Term 4
  • • Completing the attendance register daily
  • To organise and attend events in support of students e.g.:
  • • Art Fest/End of Term Assemblies
  • • Sports Days/ Maria Montessori’s Birthday celebrations
  • • Seasonal celebrations/Working With Your Child
  • Also:
  • • Holding a bachelor degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
  • • Holding and maintain Queensland Teacher Registration
  • • Holding and maintaining a current exemption Blue Card
  • • Holding and maintaining a current First Aid and CPR certificate
  • • Displaying initiative in the workplace
  • • Ensuring that children are at all times supervised by classroom staff
  • • Conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times as per the Staff Handbook, EBA and school policies & procedures
  • • Ensuring the school area is a smoke free zone
  • • Refraining from using cell phones while in class. In an emergency, people may contact you through the front office
  • • Attending Montessori workshops/conferences to ensure personal growth
  • THE ENVIRONMENT
  • • Setting up and maintaining the environment as required. Everything has a place and is in its place
  • • Modelling the teachings of Peace Education; manners and grace and courtesy rules
  • • Checking that equipment and environment is in perfect order at the end of the day
  • • Keeping records of the environment
  • THE CHILD
  • • Your duty is to develop each child in the environment
  • • Encouraging the child to complete the work cycle. Children like what they do; they do not do what they like
  • • Treating each child with respect and expect respect in return
  • • Knowing each child as an individual. Focusing on the positive
  • • Developing a talent in each child to build up his/her self-esteem
