With continued growth across major infrastructure projects, Bowhill Engineering is seeking an experienced Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) to join our Quality Team.
This is a key leadership role responsible for coordinating and driving the full welding quality process
across complex structural steel projects, ensuring compliance, performance,
and continuous improvement across all stages of production.

About the Role
As the Responsible Welding Coordinator, you will take ownership of the complete quality assurance lifecycle—from tender review and project setup through to workshop execution, inspections, and final sign-off. Working closely with Production, Projects, and Quality teams, you will ensure welding compliance, documentation, and fabrication standards are consistently met. You will also play a critical role in strengthening systems, improving processes, and embedding quality excellence across the business. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and high-performance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
- Coordinate full QA documentation from project start through to completion
- Lead technical and constructability reviews during tender and project phases
- Ensure compliance with welding standards (AS1554, AS/NZS 2214, ISO 9606)
- Manage Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Welder Qualifications (WQR)
- Oversee workshop quality checks, inspections, and fabrication tolerances
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality systems and processes
- Ensure all work is signed off and compliant prior to leaving the workshop
- Identify process gaps and implement practical, sustainable improvements
- Support training and development of welding and production teams
- Work collaboratively across departments to achieve project and quality outcomes
Experience & Qualifications
- AS2214 Structural Steel Welding Supervisor (essential)
- Metal Trade Certificate (essential)
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a Boilermaker
- 10+ years’ experience in the structural steel industry
- Strong knowledge of AS1554 and welding compliance standards
- Experience with ISO 9606 welder qualifications
- Experience with AS5131 Structural Steel Fabrication & Erection
- Welding inspection experience (visual inspections)
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Elevated Work Platform (Yellow Card – desirable)
