The opportunity
The Individual Giving Coordinator plays a key role in delivering BirdLife Australia’s Individual Giving Strategy, working closely with the Individual Giving Manager to execute donor campaigns across a range of channels.
This position is responsible for managing BirdLife’s annual appeals calendar and overseeing the acquisition and stewardship of single-gift donors. The role contributes directly to growing fundraising income and building meaningful philanthropic relationships.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring experience managing multiple fundraising campaigns, with a track record of increasing income, retaining donors and guiding supporters through the donor lifecycle. Strong project management skills and the ability to engage and coordinate a variety of stakeholders to successfully deliver outcomes are essential.

What you need to know
This is a full-time position, fixed term contract from 11 May 2026 until 16 April 2026 (1.0 FTE). Please note, that this is a hybrid position working in a home-based environment and in the national office in Collingwood, Victoria.

Individual Giving Coordinator
Position objective
The Individual Giving Coordinator is responsible for BirdLife’s annual schedule of appeals and the acquisition and stewardship of single-gift donors, contributing to growth in BirdLife’s income and nurturing of philanthropic relationships.

Location
This is a hybrid position based from BirdLife Australia’s National Office in Collingwood, Victoria and a home office location.
Key relationships
Internal: Executive Leadership Team, Strategy and Governance, Participation and Engagement, Finance and Business Improvement, Conservation and Science, Project Staff and Network Groups.
External: BirdLife Australia donors and prospective supporters, consultants and partners, suppliers and service providers.
Travel requirements
Some travel within Australia may be required.
Key Responsibilities
• Work with the Individual Giving Manager to implement key activities from the Fundraising Growth Strategy to drive revenue growth and acquire and retain supporters.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Fundraising teams to plan, develop and implement a single gift donor journey.
• Plan and execute four annual multi-channel appeals, including an annual Giving Day, ensuring timelines are met.
• Develop and implement the donor retention, thank you and recognition strategy. Identifying areas of opportunity and improvement, including evaluation of existing programs and development of new initiatives to create an unrivalled donor experience.
• Drive income growth, exceeding budget targets.
• Project manage the appeal cycle and prepare appeal briefing documents for internal and external stakeholders.
• Strategise and implement data targeting and segmentation. Monitor and evaluate appeal performance based on key metrics, adjusting the strategy as necessary.
• Plan content and oversee creative development, coordinating with internal and external copywriters, designers, and subject matter experts to produce engaging, emotive, and on-brand materials, while ensuring all fundraising communications are factual and supported by science.
• Manage external suppliers such as printers, designers and mail houses to meet agreed budgets and ensure accurate and timely lodgement of Appeal campaigns
• Ensure all internal stakeholders are adequately briefed.
• In conjunction with the Individual Giving Manager, develop and execute a mid-high level donor program.
• Liaise with the Major Gift Manager and Individual Giving Manager to coordinate Major Donor appeals and Matched Giving Days.
• Ensure post appeal analysis occurs and identify insights and trends to guide future appeals.
• Other duties as directed by your manager from time to time.
Selection Criteria
Essential
• Demonstrated experience and an outstanding track record of success in managing donor relations and fundraising programs.
• Previous experience in the successful planning and implementation of donor retention and acquisition strategies that meet budget requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to champion BirdLife Australia and its mission.
• Strong relationship management skills, including successful experience liaising with 3rd party suppliers.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information about both the organisation and its supporters.
• Demonstrated skill working with databases, data extraction and data analysis.
• Strong project management, time management and organisational skills with ability to manage competing demands.
• Sound copy and editing skills and experience in the development of key messaging across digital, web and direct mail.
• Ability to absorb and synthesize specialist information across a range of areas and present this in a simple and effective manner.
• Ability to work well independently and part of a team.
• Experience using Salesforce (or other relevant CRM) and 3rd party fundraising donation platforms.
• Completed Fundraising Institute of Australia code of conduct or willing to do so.
Desirable
• Qualification in marketing, fundraising or communications.
• Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in customer service/communications or fundraising role.
• Previous experience working at a creative agency.
• An affinity with the aims and philosophy of a not-for-profit conservation organisation.
• Good knowledge of environmental, ecological or avian issues.
• Able to extract insight from data and marketing analytics.
