Description

Your new organisation

BirdLife Australia is on a mission to put birds and nature on the path to recovery within a decade. With over 460,000 supporters, donors, volunteers, campaigners and members, you will join over 140 staff across Australia, and a network of more than 40 voluntary community groups. Together, our growing network of people stand together to help us protect Australia’s unique birdlife.

Position objective

The Manager Birds on Farms is a key leadership role within the Science and Priority Landscapes Program and supports BirdLife’s mission to put birds and nature on a path to recovery by 2032. The Birds on Farms program engages landholders in rural landscapes, through a targeted citizen science monitoring program, to increase awareness of woodland birds, their conservation needs, and support habitat restoration and conservation of birds on their properties. By engaging landholders through bird conservation, and encouraging uptake of habitat restoration actions, the program will address key threats and reverse the decline of woodland and other bird species, whilst also supporting overall environmental health and farm productivity.

The Role

Reporting to the Director Science & Priority Landscapes, the Manager oversees the Birds on Farms engagement programs in key areas across Australia (such as Vic, NSW, Qld and WA). These projects use woodland birds as flagship species and indicators of landscape health, to engage communities in conservation on private rural properties. This is achieved through education, monitoring, site visits and the development of habitat restoration plans, funding advice, and (where appropriate) covenanting of key woodland habitat. These activities support the delivery of BirdLife Australia’s Woodland Bird Conservation Action Plan (WB CAP).
