Biosis Australia is growing, and we’d love you to be part of it! We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Ecologist or Botanist to join our NSW ecology team in any of our offices. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on leading complex ecological projects and is ready to take ownership of biodiversity offset coordination across New South Wales.
As a Senior Ecologist – Offset Coordinator, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering ecological assessments, environmental approvals, and conservation planning. You’ll also lead the development of Biodiversity Stewardship Sites and provide expert advice on offset strategy, pricing, and compliance. This is a dynamic position combining technical expertise, project management, client engagement, and mentoring of junior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and lead ecological survey programs and impact assessments
- Prepare technical reports including vegetation mapping, impact assessments, and offset strategies
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams on complex environmental projects
- Provide expert advice on state and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation
- Support junior staff with fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting
- Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
- Prepare project proposals and tender submissions
- Assist in preparing and presenting expert evidence
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies, and researchers
- Lead biodiversity assessments for Biodiversity Stewardship Sites (BSSARs, Site Management Plans, TFD calculations)
- Advise on offset pricing using NSW market tools and support cost estimation
- Monitor BOS updates and communicate relevant changes to the team
- Maintain accreditation under the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM)
- Ensure QA of offset project data within 90 days
- Act as primary contact for offset-related client and internal queries
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.
- Accreditation under the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) or ability to get accreditation.
- Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation and NSW policy framework.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A current and valid driver’s licence.
- You must have the right to work in Australia to apply for this job.
