The Portfolio Manager – Multi-Asset Funds is a senior investment role responsible for the active management and performance of Betashares’ multi-asset superannuation portfolios.
Working closely with the Head of Multi-Asset Investments – Superannuation and the Chief Investment Officer, the role contributes to investment strategy, Strategic and Tactical Asset Allocation, portfolio construction and external manager selection. The role requires experience in judgement and discretion in identifying tactical opportunities, managing portfolio risk, and delivering outcomes aligned to stated investment objectives and mandates.
- Contribution to broader investment strategy and asset allocation frameworks, including Tactical Asset Allocation.
- Active oversight of portfolio risk, liquidity and mandate compliance.
- Ongoing oversight of external investment managers and strategies.
The superannuation funds include a default lifecycle strategy and choice options. The overall investment strategy and philosophy is to focus on long-term diversification through skilled managers.
Role Responsibilities
Contribution to broader investment strategy and asset allocation frameworks including Tactical Asset Allocation
Portfolio management & asset allocation
- Manage multi-asset portfolios across agreed risk profiles.
- Conduct financial market and economic research to inform Strategic and Tactical Asset Allocation.
- Identify, size and implement tactical asset allocation opportunities.
- Formulate and maintain investment strategies for assigned portfolios.
External manager oversight
- Research, assess and review external investment managers and strategies.
- Conduct initial and ongoing due diligence, including performance, process, risk and fees.
- Recommend manager appointments, changes or terminations where appropriate.
- Ensure regular manager reviews and monitoring are completed.
Active oversight of portfolio risk, liquidity and mandate compliance
Risk, liquidity & execution
- Monitor portfolio risk, including sector, factor and geographic exposures.
- Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis as required.
- Ensure portfolios operate within agreed risk, liquidity and mandate parameters.
- Oversee trade execution in line with internal policies and best execution practices.
- Manage liquidity to ensure redemptions and applications are efficiently funded or invested.
Governance, reporting & communication
- Prepare investment performance reporting against benchmarks, peers and regulatory requirements.
- Provide clear investment commentary and insights to internal stakeholders.
- Present to investment committees and other governance forums as required.
- Engage with ratings agencies to support fund assessment and outcomes.
Other areas of focus:
Collaboration & investment representation
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure investment strategies are accurately reflected in communications and materials.
- Represent the investment team in relevant internal and external forums.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing investment culture.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience managing active multi-asset portfolios, ideally within superannuation or retirement-focused products.
- Strong background in Strategic and Tactical Asset Allocation.
- Proven capability managing portfolio risk, liquidity and performance outcomes.
- Deep understanding of financial markets across multiple asset classes.
- Advanced financial modelling, Excel and Bloomberg skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including senior stakeholder engagement.
- Sound understanding of superannuation regulatory and performance reporting obligations.
