Description

About the opportunity

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the condition of the air inside buildings, including offices, hospitals, laboratories and manufacturing facilities. It covers everything from particulate levels and airborne contaminants to ventilation performance and microbial presence. Getting it right matters, particularly in environments where occupant health, regulatory compliance or sensitive processes are at stake.

Benmax holds NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accreditation for indoor air quality testing, and we’re looking for the right person to lead that service.

This is a role for someone who cares about getting it right. The test methodology, the report, the client relationship. You take pride in work that’s technically sound and clearly communicated, and you hold yourself to a high standard without needing to be asked.

Most of your time will be office-based, with regular site visits woven in as the work requires. You’ll own our NATA accreditation, drive continuous improvement, and keep an eye out for opportunities to grow the service. If you have an auditor’s mindset and thrive on precision, this role is worth a close look.

You can expect to:

  • Conduct IAQ testing at client sites across Canberra and surrounds, including HEPA filter testing, fume cupboard testing, and clean room validation, in accordance with relevant Australian Standards
  • Act as the NATA Authorised Representative, owning all accreditation documentation, compliance obligations, and audit preparation end to end
  • Produce technically precise client reports, with a monthly minimum turnaround and a continuous push to improve delivery times
  • Maintain strong relationships with key institutional clients as their primary technical point of contact
  • Oversee the IAQ team’s technical output, keeping every deliverable accurate, consistent, and compliant
  • Continuously review and improve testing procedures, documentation practices, and quality systems
  • Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients and contribute to discussions with prospective ones
  • Participate in internal and external QA audits and contribute to quality system improvements across the division

What you’ll bring

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related field such as science, engineering, or environmental health
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory or testing environment, ideally NATA accredited
  • Technical grounding in air quality testing through HVAC, mechanical, or a related background
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Australian Standards and documented test methods
  • Comfortable working in controlled environments such as labs, healthcare facilities, or manufacturing
  • Strong grasp of quality management systems, data integrity, and accreditation frameworks
  • Exceptional attention to detail with an auditor’s approach to accuracy and compliance
  • Confident communicating technical findings to clients and building lasting professional relationships
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to client sites as required

Desirable:

  • Previous role as a NATA Authorised Representative
  • Membership of a relevant industry body such as AIRAH
