Underground Bogger Operators

Description

Role Purpose

To safely and efficiently operate an underground loader (bogger) to load, transport and dump ore and waste material in accordance with site standards, supporting production and development activities while maintaining equipment condition and safe work areas.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

Comply with site HSE management system, underground traffic rules, and communications protocols.

Complete Take 5/JHA/SWMS as required and reassess hazards as conditions change.

Maintain situational awareness around mobile equipment, LV traffic, pedestrians, and active headings.

Adhere to exclusion zones, spotting rules, and interaction management controls.

Report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly and participate in investigations as required.

Operational Duties

Operate underground loaders to:

Load and dump ore/waste to stockpiles, ore passes, trucks, or designated dump points

Clean up development headings, production areas and intersections

Manage bog points and maintain loading floors, brow conditions, and tipping areas

Assist with backfilling, road maintenance support, and general mine services tasks as directed (site dependent)

Work with other crews (jumbo, charge-up, trucks, service crew, supervisors) to meet shift plans and production targets.

Maintain clean, safe working areas including managing spillage and ensuring travelways remain trafficable.

Equipment Care & Maintenance

Conduct pre-start inspections and operational checks (brakes, steering, hydraulics, bucket, tyres, lights, suppression systems, fire suppression, alarms).

Operate equipment within manufacturer limits and site procedures to minimise damage and downtime.

Report defects immediately and isolate/tag out equipment where required.

Perform basic operator maintenance within authorisation (greasing checks, cleaning, refuelling coordination, changing cutting edges where permitted).

Communication & Reporting

Maintain effective radio communication, correct call-ups, and comply with right-of-way and traffic controls.

Provide shift handovers including machine condition, hazards, and progress against plan.

Complete required documentation: pre-starts, hazard reports, maintenance requests, timesheets, production notes (where applicable).

Skills, Experience & Competencies

Essential

Demonstrated underground bogger/loader operating experience.

Strong safety focus and understanding of underground hazards (ground conditions, water, poor visibility, interactions).

Ability to work independently and as part of a crew in a production environment.

Good communication skills and discipline with radio/traffic procedures.

Desirable

Experience on specific bogger types (CAT / Sandvik) and with different operating conditions (trucking, ore pass, stockpile management).

Multi-skilled underground experience (trucks, service crew, nipper, shotcrete support).

Basic mechanical aptitude.

Licences / Tickets

Current driver’s licence.

VOC/competency verification on underground loader (mandatory).

Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol testing.

National Police Clearance (if required).

6) Working Conditions

Underground environment with heat, dust, noise, water, low visibility and confined spaces.

Shift work including nights and fatigue management requirements.

Must be capable of physical tasks related to inspections and basic maintenance.
