About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced and driven Broking Manager. The role combines team leadership, technical broking expertise, insurer negotiation, and strategic portfolio management. A strong understanding of domestic building risks, DBI requirements, construction insurance lines, and complex placement structures is essential.
This role suits a strategic thinker who thrives on relationship management, is results-focused, and takes pride in providing tailored risk solutions to clients.
Client & Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of construction clients including builders, developers, subcontractors, engineers project managers and related trades.
- Serve as the primary advisor for all insurance matters, conducting annual reviews and risk assessments.
- Provide strategic guidance on coverage structures, limits, deductibles, and risk mitigation.
- Drive strong client retention through proactive engagement and service excellence.
Technical Insurance Expertise
- Interpret construction contracts and insurance clauses to identify insurance obligations, risk exposures, limits, deductibles, and coverage structures.
- Structure annual and project specific placement programs and negotiate terms, premiums, and enhancements with insurers.
Insurer & Market Engagement
- Negotiate competitive and bespoke solutions for clients.
- Prepare high quality market submissions and stay informed on market trends, underwriting appetite, and emerging construction risks.
New Business Development
- Identify and pursue new opportunities within the construction sector.
- Build referral networks with accountants, lawyers, financiers, and industry bodies.
- Prepare proposals, tenders, and presentations to support growth targets.
Claims Advocacy
- Provide strategic support on complex construction related claims.
- Liaise with loss adjusters, insurers, and legal advisors to ensure timely, effective outcomes.
- Assist clients in mitigating claim exposure.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with ASIC, AFSL, and internal standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation, file notes, and record keeping.
- Meet CPD requirements and uphold internal compliance procedures.
About You
- Brings 5-10+ years of general insurance broking experience, with a strong background servicing construction sector clients.
- Holds a Tier 1 Insurance Broking qualification (RG146 compliant).
- Demonstrates advanced technical capability across Contract Works/CAR, Liability, Professional Indemnity (D&C), Management Liability, Plant & Equipment, Motor Fleet, ISR, Builders Warranty/DBI, and related lines.
- Proven success managing complex accounts and negotiating effectively with major insurers.
- Brings and maintains strong insurer relationships and a solid understanding of market appetite, trends, and emerging construction risks. An Existing book of construction clients is desirable.
- Known for strong commercial acumen, analytical thinking, and sound risk assessment skills.
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally.
- Experienced in leading or mentoring brokers, with a passion for developing technical capability within a team.
- Brings a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and thrives in a fast‑paced, technically demanding environment.
