HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS – SYDNEY (NORTH SYDNEY) OR GOLD COAST (BUNDALL)
The Head of Communications is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping and protecting the Supercars reputation, driving compelling storytelling, and ensuring consistent, high-impact communication across all internal and external audiences.
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, you will lead the development and execution of an integrated communications strategy that elevates the profile of the Championship, its drivers, teams, and partners—positioning Supercars as a leading force in sport and entertainment.
This role extends beyond traditional PR to encompass internal communications, media strategy, stakeholder engagement, and critical incident management. You will work closely with drivers, teams, commercial partners, and broadcast stakeholders to unlock storytelling opportunities that grow relevance, reach, and commercial value.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and own the overarching communications strategy, aligning with brand, marketing, and commercial objectives
- Partner with the CMO and executive team to shape Supercars’ reputation, narrative, and public positioning
- Identify and leverage key moments across the Championship to maximise media impact and audience engagement
- Lead communications planning across major announcements, events, and strategic initiatives
Media & Public Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national and international media, ensuring consistent, high-quality coverage
- Develop proactive PR strategies that position Supercars, its drivers, and teams as compelling, mainstream entertainment assets
- Work closely with teams and drivers to identify and amplify storytelling opportunities that grow fan connection
- Oversee media relation operations across all events, including press conferences, media days, and launches
Stakeholder & Partner Communications
- Lead communications strategy for key stakeholders including broadcast partners, sponsors, government, and commercial partners
- Build strong working relationships with partner communications teams to maximise shared value and coordinated messaging
- Ensure alignment and consistency across all stakeholder communications and public-facing activity
Internal Communications
- Develop and implement internal communications frameworks that improve alignment, clarity, and engagement across the organisation
- Support leadership communication, including executive messaging, organisational updates, and change initiatives
- Ensure consistent messaging and transparency across internal channels
Brand & Reputation Management
- Protect and enhance the Supercars brand through consistent messaging and proactive reputation management
- Monitor media and public sentiment, identifying risks and opportunities to strengthen brand perception
- Ensure all communications align to brand positioning and strategic narrative
Critical Incident Management
- Lead crisis communication planning and execution, ensuring preparedness across all areas of the business
- Act as a senior advisor to leadership during critical incidents, managing messaging, media response, and stakeholder communication
- Develop frameworks, protocols, and training to ensure organisation-wide readiness
Content & Messaging
- Oversee the creation and distribution of all official communications including press releases, media kits, and statements
- Ensure consistency and quality of messaging across owned, earned, and shared channels
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Digital, and Broadcast teams to deliver integrated storytelling
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing Communications team
- Manage external PR agencies, stakeholders and partners to deliver best-in-class outcomes
- Foster strong cross-functional collaboration across Marketing, Digital, Commercial, Broadcast, and Motorsport
Performance & Reporting
- Establish measurement frameworks to track media coverage, sentiment, and communications effectiveness
- Provide regular reporting and insights to executive leadership
- Continuously refine communications strategy based on performance and audience insights
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- 10+ years’ experience in communications, public relations, or media, with significant experience in a senior leadership role
- Proven track record delivering high-impact PR strategies in sport, media, entertainment, or related industries
- Deep expertise in reputation management, media relations, and critical issues communications
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute integrated communications strategies across multiple channels
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior executives, partners, and media
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
Highly Regarded
- Experience working within Australian or international sport
- Established media network across sport, news, and entertainment
- Experience working with high-profile talent, athletes, or personalities
