The Opportunity

Austroads is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Services team, based in Melbourne. Working closely with an experienced and supportive General Counsel, this role provides high quality, practical and solution focussed legal advice across the organisation, supporting a wide range of commercial, government and operational activities.

This role suits a confident and adaptable lawyer who enjoys working in a collaborative, in-house environment and managing complex stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

This exciting role will involve:

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial and government contracts

• Providing timely, solution focussed legal advice to internal stakeholders

• Advising on data, privacy, intellectual property, competition and consumer law matters

• Supporting the uplift and maintenance of legal precedents and governance documentation

• Managing relationships with external legal advisors where required

• Contributing to legal education, continuous improvement and risk management initiatives

• Operating effectively in a dynamic and, at times, politically sensitive environment

About You

The successful candidate will possess:

• 2–6 years’ post qualification experience

• Strong experience drafting and negotiating contracts independently

• Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement skills

• Admission as a legal practitioner in Victoria with an unsupervised practising certificate

• Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously

• A service focussed, adaptable and collaborative approach

• Experience in-house or within government, and exposure to data, privacy or intellectual property law, will be highly regarded.
