AVI supports the implementation of the Australian Volunteers Program on behalf of the Australian Government. The Australian Volunteers Program enables skilled Australian volunteers to support partner organisations in 26 countries across the Pacific, Asia and Africa to progress their development objectives.
The Program Effectiveness Manager is a key senior leadership role within the Australian Volunteers Program, responsible for providing strategic direction and trusted advice to program leadership and DFAT. This role leads efforts to strengthen and sustain the program’s overall effectiveness through to its conclusion in June 2027.
Overseeing the Program Effectiveness Team, the Manager drives cross-program initiatives to identify and progress strategic priorities, continuously refine program approaches, and enhance systems and practices to maximise development impact. The role also plays a critical part in ensuring a smooth and effective transition of the program into its next phase in mid-2027, positioning the program for continued success and long-term impact.
Position Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in leading cross-organisational teams and working effectively in a multi-country, cross-cultural program environment
- Managing people-centred organisational, system and process change and capacity development
- Demonstrated experience in developing strategies, concepts and initiatives in the volunteering and international development sectors, and creating and leading actionable plans for their delivery, including within a government funded environment
- Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching and overseeing the work of a team of professionals to deliver agreed outcomes
- Sound knowledge of international volunteering and the role of volunteerism in international development
- Strong networking and relationship management experience
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills for collaboration, cooperation and influence
- Highly developed strategic and operational planning capability
- Ability to work well in a flexible environment coupled with a high tolerance for ambiguity and complexity
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Program/Project Management, International Development/ International Relations and/or equivalent experience
