Role Overview:

The Legal Assistant role is a pivotal position within the Claims Division at Aussie Injury Lawyers (AIL). This position is responsible for providing advanced legal and administrative support to the Claims team, with a focus on the progression and management of superannuation claims and litigated claims

This Legal Assistant plays a key part in our continued commitment to helping everyday Australians reclaim their future and building Aussie Injury Lawyers into the leading plaintiff insurance firm in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, coordinating with stakeholders, maintaining accurate case files, and assisting in the preparation of claims for resolution.

1. Technical Legal Skills

  • Have an appropriate level of superannuation and insurance industry knowledge to provide advice on claim eligibility, insurer on risk, prospects, strategy and resolution.

  • Assist the Solicitor in managing and progressing superannuation claims and litigated claims through the legal process.
  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents in consultation with work authors, including letters, briefs, and disclosure materials.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic case files from instruction to closure, in line with legal procedures and firm standards.
  • Support the wider claims team with the timely preparation and delivery of matter-specific documents
  • Exercise professional judgement in advising clients, liaising with insurers and trustees and leading direct reports.

  • Liaise with solicitors and escalate complex matters for legal review or litigation where appropriate.

4. Client Relationship Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Ability to create a positive and professional first impression, as Legal Assistants are the initial point of contact for clients entering the claims process.
  • Communicate with clients, insurance funds, medical professionals and other third parties to gather essential documents and information.
  • Appropriate engagement and management of experts to support claim outcomes.
  • Manage client expectations, communications and receipt of positive client feedback.
  • Understanding of and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Involvement and/or attendance at industry events and professional associations/groups.

5. Financial Performance

  • Achieve personal monthly milestone targets as prescribed by the firm’s Performance Directive.
  • Ensuring each of your direct teams achieve monthly milestone targets as prescribed by the firm’s Performance Directive.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Clerk, with an understanding of TPD and income protection processes
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and supportive way
  • Strong client relationships and legal drafting skills.
  • Confident in liaising with insurers, super funds, medical providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide clear solutions to problems and discuss issues with Senior Leadership.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset and commitment to delivering positive outcomes for clients.
