About the role

Atmos is a specialist legal and advisory firm offering end-to-end services, partnering with our clients to manage cyber, privacy and digital risks across Australia and New Zealand.

Atmos has revolutionised cyber, privacy and digital risk management and is expanding its Disputes + Investigations team.

We are looking for a motivated individual who:

  • is interested in managing high profile, complex disputes and regulatory investigations across key growth areas at the cutting edge of law (data protection, technology, privacy, and digital risk); and
  • has a demonstrated track record of managing disputes, whether across commercial litigation or insurance litigation including professional indemnity, D+O, regulatory or Tech E+O.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced litigator to be a part of a dynamic team at the forefront of driving change in the way that data protection, privacy and other digital risk is managed in Australia and New Zealand.

In this role, you will be reporting to two Partners and play a crucial role supporting our Partners and mentoring a team of associates as they help our clients navigate litigation and regulatory investigations for SMEs to large corporates across a broad spectrum of sectors. You can expect to work on disputes arising from:

  • Contractual breaches;
  • Data breach incidents (including some of the largest multi-party data breaches);
  • Privacy complainants and disputes (including representative actions and class actions ;
  • Consumer law breaches;
  • Negligence claims; and
  • Other related digital law, technology, media and fintech disputes.

You will have a high degree of autonomy and be heavily involved in all aspects of client work. You will have the support of our Partners, senior lawyers, consultants, crisis communications professionals and threat intelligence consultants across our network of offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland who are leaders in their respective fields. This gives our people the opportunity to make a significant contribution to successful outcomes.

The Partners encourage all members of the team to foster client relationships and regular opportunities are provided for the team to engage in business development. There is also an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by contributing to the Atmos First Response Pro-Bono Program which provides support and stolen funds recovery for personal scam victims.

You will also regularly work with:

  • our correspondent law firms in 180+ jurisdictions around the world – an opportunity to become well versed in the global regulatory landscape; and
  • leading cyber, privacy and digital law experts in digital forensics, incident response and forensic accounting

Responsibilities

You will provide crucial support to our Partners within the Disputes + Investigations team to:

  • Be the first point of contact for clients and provide prompt and efficient support helping them navigate the issues they face.
  • Manage the client facing response to the dispute and/or regulatory investigation through the full lifecycle of the event, taking instructions and maintaining client files.
  • Support the day-to-day management and development of more junior lawyers, providing full mentorship and guidance to help them achieve their career goals.
  • Ensure the event is fully communicated, recorded and tracked in accordance with Atmos best practice frameworks.

Key skills and experience

  • A passion for cyber, data protection, privacy and technology disputes and a developing understanding of corresponding client regulatory obligations.
  • Strong academic credentials and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Developing experience dealing with escalated, client-facing issues, as well as experience handling a high caseload.
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment with a critical mind and fine-tuned problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Teamwork and collaboration and leadership skills, as well as the ability to be a self-starter that effectively manages work independently.
