Purpose of the role:
The purpose of this Content Creator/Copywriter role is to manage the delivery of APNA’s weekly The
Connect newsletter while creating clear, engaging and audience-focused content that drives member value. The role ensures high editorial standards, collaborates across teams and uses data insights to continuously improve content performance and communication effectiveness across channels.

Key responsibilities:
Newsletter ownership and delivery
- Own the end-to-end production of The Connect weekly newsletter, ensuring delivery every Monday with the support of the wider Marketing and Communications team.
- Manage the full workflow including content intake, planning, drafting, build, approvals, scheduling and post-send review.
- Ensure content meets APNA brand standards, editorial guidelines and quality expectations.
- Maintain clear structure, hierarchy and balance of content across all editions.
Content curation and creation
- Review and select content submissions from internal and external contributors.
- Write engaging, concise and accurate headlines and summaries aligned to defined word limits and audience needs.
- Ensure all content is relevant, evidence-based, timely and sourced from reputable organisations.
- Identify top stories and prioritise content that will maximise engagement and value for members.
Stakeholder collaboration
- Coordinate with internal teams including Marketing, Communications, Education, Partnerships and Events to source content.
- Liaise with external contributors and partners where required.
- Facilitate the weekly The Connect planning/kick-off meeting and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
- Work collaboratively with the Digital Marketing Specialist, Graphic Designer and Communications Officer to support the development, content creation, build, execution and publication of The Connect.
Quality assurance and approvals
- Ensure all links, segmentation, formatting and visual elements are accurate and optimised.
- Conduct thorough reviews of content, links, formatting, segmentation and mobile responsiveness.
- Manage internal approval processes and ensure timely sign-off.
- Ensure adherence to APNA policies, branding and accessibility best practices.
- Performance monitoring and continuous improvement
- Track engagement metrics including open rates, click rates and click-to-open rates.
- Maintain and update weekly performance reports with the support of the Digital Marketing Specialist.
- Use data insights to iterate and improve content selection, structure and engagement strategies.
- Provide recommendations to improve performance and member value.
Broader content development and communications support
- Support the development of engaging social media content, including writing, editing and adapting content for different channels.
- Contribute to the creation, editing and proofreading of key APNA publications and communications including reports, campaigns, collateral, media and public relations material.
- Ensure consistency of messaging and tone across all external communications.
- Provide editorial support across the Marketing and Communications team as required.
General
- Support broader Marketing and Communications team activities as required.
- Undertake other tasks aligned with skills, knowledge and experience.
- Comply with APNA policies and procedures.
Essential Skills
- Strong copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to write concise, engaging content under strict word limits.
- Demonstrated experience creating digital content for newsletters, EDMs or publications.
- Strong attention to detail across content, formatting and quality assurance.
- Ability to manage end-to-end production workflows and meet fixed deadlines.
- Understanding of audience segmentation and engagement principles.
- Strong content judgement and ability to curate relevant, high-quality information from multiple sources.
- Ability to interpret engagement data and apply insights to improve performance.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in copywriting, content creation, editorial or communications roles.
- Experience producing newsletters or regular publications (highly desirable).
- Experience in health, membership or not-for-profit sectors (highly regarded).
- Clinical experience as a nurse, or prior experience working within the primary health care sector, would be highly desirable.
Essential IT Competencies
- Experience using email marketing platforms (e.g. Campaign Monitor, Mailchimp, Active Campaign, Hubspot).
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Collaboration tools (e.g. Teams)
