About APCO
The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is Australia’s co-regulator for packaging and a not-for-profit organisation driving the development of a circular economy for packaging.
APCO is the entity in charge of managing and administering the Australian Packaging Covenant (the Covenant), which is a national regulatory framework under the National Environment Protection (Used Packaging Materials) Measure 2011 (NEPM). This framework defines the collective responsibility shared by governments and businesses across Australia in managing the environmental impact of packaging.
The Role
The ARL Program Coordinator supports the delivery of the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) Program by working closely with the ARL Program team across governance, technical, and stakeholder engagement activities. The role is responsible for coordinating tasks, planning and scheduling activities, undertaking technical oversight and research, and supporting effective engagement with program members and technical stakeholders.
This role works within the technical recyclability workstream within the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) program. The ARL Program Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring technical integrity, consistency, and continuous improvement across program activities. The role collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners to support evidence-based recyclability outcomes and the effective delivery of ARL Program objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate technical recyclability activities across the ARL team, including systems and process documentation
- Provide clear and confident technical advice to ARL Program members
- Develop and deliver project plans, effectively managing timelines, milestones, and deliverables
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including program members and technical advisors
- Collect, analyse, and interpret program performance data, including compliance and governance metrics, and contribute to regular reporting
- Undertake research to identify collaboration opportunities, emerging issues, and gaps to inform ongoing technical program development
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, including IT, Marketing, and Technical functions, to support program delivery
- Assist in identifying and documenting governance‑related risks and supporting the development of mitigation strategies
- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance program efficiency and effectiveness
- Coordinate the establishment and operation of technical recyclability committees with a strong focus on sustainable packaging outcomes
Required Skills & Experience:
- Understanding of packaging sustainability principles and material recyclability requirements
- Knowledge of sustainability principles, circular economy frameworks, and the packaging industry (preferred)
- 2+ years’ experience in the packaging industry (preferred), circular economy, environmental sustainability, or related field
- Proven stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with experience driving alignment across complex or diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong stakeholder management, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to consider multiple perspectives and communicate effectively across different organisational levels
- Excellent organisational, coordination, and documentation skills
- Ability to work effectively within cross‑functional and multidisciplinary environments
- Strong interest in the packaging industry and recyclability, with a willingness to build technical knowledge
- Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce or similar platforms
- Sustainability or environment‑related qualifications are advantageous
