AWL NSW is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team in a crucial role focused on providing exceptional customer service, to members of the public looking to adopt animals and help them find their forever home. The Receptionist works as part of the Shleter team and is responsible for office duties such as answering phone calls and greeting visitors to AWL NSW, in addition to undertaking various administrative duties. This role is responsible for ensuring the high standards of the Shelter are maintained and accurate and complete records are kept at all times.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Greets all visitors to AWL NSW and notifies relevant personnel of visitor arrival
- Answers telephone calls and directing them appropriately in a timely manner
- Manages the Shelter email account
- Manages the admission and discharge paperwork for Shelter Animals
- Takes bookings from customers and processes adoption and other payments
- Performs daily banking and reconciliation related tasks
- Enters animal details into databases
- Confirms surgical bookings with the Vet Clinic
- Manages the intake of surrendered animals
- Provides basic triage where required to clients’ animals, including holding & handling animals at time of adoption/surrender if required
- Supports Animal Attendants on sections with animals if required, including occasional transport trips.
- Undertakes basic animal handling and husbandry as required.
Sales
- Sales of merchandise, recommending any display items that match customer needs
- Manage point of sale processes
- Maintain merchandise display standards, including monitoring stock and restocking.
Housekeeping
- Ensures Cattery/reception area is kept clean and tidy.
- Manages intake of donations and distributes as required.
- Ensures all filing (electronic and hard copy) is up to date
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in customer service, retail or reception
- Experience in animal handling and demonstrated affinity with animals
- Excellent communication skills
- An ability to cope under pressure
- Strong computer and database management skills
- Empathy for the welfare of all animals, in particular companion animals, consistent with the aims and objectives of the Animal Welfare League NSW
- High levels of energy and motivation
