The Commercial Manager is responsible for providing commercial leadership across the delivery of capital projects and OPEX services within Altogether’s water and energy portfolio. This includes commercial governance, contract administration, cost and risk management, and value optimisation to support compliant, on-time and on-budget delivery outcomes.

Core responsibilities
Commercial & Contract Management:
- Capital projects and OPEX-based services are delivered under contract in a way that protects commercial position, achieves agreed risk allocation, and supports on-time, on-budget outcomes.
- Contracts are administered consistently and compliantly in accordance with Australian delivery models, resulting in minimal contractual non-compliance or dispute.
- Variations, extensions of time, compensation events, and claims are identified early, assessed accurately, and resolved in a timely manner to minimise cost, delay, and relationship impact.
Cost, Financial & Performance Management:
- CAPEX and OPEX activities achieve agreed commercial, financial, and performance targets, with cost control and financial outcomes clearly understood.
- Budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and cost-to-complete are accurate, current, and support informed decision-making and early intervention.
- Commercial performance is transparently tracked and reported against delivery, operational, and business objectives.
Risk & Value Management:
- Commercial risks and opportunities across projects and operations are identified early, actively managed, and reflected in commercial strategies and decisions.
- Value engineering, cost optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives deliver
Stakeholder & Client Engagement:
- Strong, professional commercial relationships are maintained with clients, operators, joint venture partners, subcontractors, and suppliers, supporting collaborative and effective delivery.
- Governance, assurance, and audit processes are supported with accurate, timely, and defensible commercial information, resulting in positive assurance outcomes.
Procurement & Supply Chain:
- Supply chain commercial practices drive performance, accountability, and consistency across delivery partners and service providers.
Leadership & Capability Development:
- Project and operational teams are supported with strong commercial leadership, improving capability, confidence, and commercial decision-making.
- Best-practice commercial management is consistently applied across delivery and operational environments.
- Commercial systems, processes, and controls are continuously improved, strengthening governance, efficiency, and commercial outcomes over time.
What will you bring to the role?
- Demonstrated experience in a commercial management role within Australian water and/or energy infrastructure, covering both CAPEX and OPEX (Preferred)
- Strong knowledge of delivery-phase and operational commercial management, including cost control and contract administration (Essential)
- Experience administering contracts, or similar project and service contract forms (Essential)
- Experience working on major capital works alongside long-term operational or maintenance contracts. (Desirable)
- Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Engineering, Construction Management, or Law. (Desirable)
- Professional accreditation such as RICS, AIQS, CICES, or equivalent (Desirable)
- Strong financial and commercial acumen (Essential)
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. (Essential)
- Commercially astute with a strong delivery and operational focus.
- Pragmatic, proactive, and resilient in dynamic delivery environments.
- Collaborative and solutions oriented.
- High attention to detail with sound commercial judgement.
