Description

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Finance Manager to own the full finance function across Agri Labour Australia and Health Plus People. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead a team of five onshore and offshore staff and take accountability for financial reporting, compliance, payroll, cashflow, and our PALM Scheme reconciliation process.

This role goes well beyond the numbers. You will be a trusted commercial partner to operational and sales leaders, challenging forecast assumptions, driving margin improvement, and embedding a culture of financial accountability across the business. If you thrive in a fast-paced, people-focused environment and want to see the direct results of your work, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End

  • Lead month-end close across two subsidiaries, targeting Day 4 completion
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations (complete by Day 6), management reporting, and commentary for the Executive team
  • Deliver client margin analysis and segment-level profitability insights

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Own the full annual budget process across all areas of the business, complete by 30 June
  • Manage the monthly forecasting cycle with Sales and Operations, including YTD EBIT and Risks and Opportunities reporting, updated by the 21st of each month

Cashflow & Working Capital

  • Manage day-to-day cash, AR, and AP functions with weekly reporting
  • Maintain a rolling 3-month cashflow forecast

Payroll & Statutory Compliance

  • Manage fortnightly payroll for approximately 100 internal staff
  • Ensure team prepares and lodges PAYG, BAS, Payroll Tax, Super, and Workcover on time
  • Manage year-end audit, income tax, and FBT lodgements — Audited stats complete by 30 November

PALM Scheme Reconciliations

  • This is a meaningful part of the role — we operate under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme and require someone who can manage the monthly reconciliation process with accuracy and confidence
  • Manage new intake processes from a finance perspective, ensure client deduction reconciliations are complete within 30 days of month-end, and liaise with internal teams to resolve discrepancies
  • Identify and implement improvements to streamline the reconciliation process over time

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of five — a mix of onshore and offshore finance staff
  • Build a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team

About You

You have solid experience across the full finance function; reporting, compliance, payroll, and cashflow and you are comfortable owning all of it. You do not need to come from a complex corporate environment; in fact, someone who has thrived in a services business of similar scale will likely be a better fit than someone stepping down from a big-end-of-town role.

Essential

  • CA or CPA qualified
  • 7+ years of experience in a finance role covering reporting, compliance, and team management
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll, statutory compliance, and month-end processes
  • High attention to detail with a track record of accurate, on-time reporting
  • Clear communicator with the ability to translate numbers into plain language for non-finance stakeholders
  • Proactive and solutions-focused with the ability to manage competing priorities

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with PALM Scheme reconciliations or similar government labour mobility programmes
  • Background in workforce services, recruitment, or agribusiness
  • Advanced Excel and experience with financial systems and reporting dashboards

Key Competencies

  • Ownership mentality – you treat the finance function as your own and hold yourself to a high standard
  • Collaborative approach – you work well with operational and sales teams who are not finance-literate
  • Hands-on and detail-oriented – comfortable being both the manager and the doer when needed
  • Commercially aware – you understand how the numbers connect to business performance
  • Steady under pressure – month-end, payroll, and compliance deadlines are non-negotiable

Why Join Us?

  • Genuine ownership – you will run the finance function, not just support it
  • Direct access to the CFO and Executive team
  • Supportive, people-first culture with a collaborative team environment
  • Industry exposure – engage with the agribusiness sector and company events
  • Dog-friendly office in Fortitude Valley, close to cafes, restaurants, and public transport
