As we continue to grow and innovate, we are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our talented software team and help shape the future of our technology.
The opportunity
Set in a well-established and scaling business the Software Manager is responsible for a small team of internal and outsourced highly skilled embedded software engineers, web and full stack developers and specialty developers who develop lighting control and management systems,
which enables the manufacturing of current and future Advatek Lighting products.
The position involves building and leading the team, and liaising with the Product Management team to ensure future product road map solutions are designed, developed, and produced according to technical specifications.
Reporting to the Managing Director you will contribute to strategic and annual planning, including managing operational plans and budgets to support the development and delivery of Advatek Lighting products. In close partnership with Product Management, you will develop plans to execute the software product roadmap, while leading the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from concept through to production, ensuring delivery is on time, within budget, and meets
quality standards.
This is a management team position which will contribute to whole of company strategy and planning. This is an exciting opportunity for a technical leader to Introduce best practices and develop software team maturity and capability. We are looking for someone with leadership
experience who enjoys combining hands-on engineering insight and problem solving with team leadership and product innovation.
In this role you will:
- contribute to the development of strategic and annual plans, including preparing and managing operational plans and budgets to support research, development, and delivery of Advatek Lighting products.
- contribute to the definition of the software aspects of the product roadmap in collaboration with Product Management and develop detailed engineering plans to execute against that roadmap. Clearly and concisely communicate goals, tasks and other organisational needs to your team, ensuring execution against plans and report on progress to the wider organisation.
- lead and manage the end-to-end software product development lifecycle, including concept development, design, development, validation, and transition to production (for embedded software). Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality
standards.
- establish, maintain, and continuously improve the software development environment,
including build systems, automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, and system), and CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable, repeatable, and scalable delivery of software. Ensure development workflows support high-quality outputs through version control, code review practices, and robust validation processes.
- drive adoption of tools and practices that improve developer productivity, traceability, and release confidence across embedded and application software domains.
In addition, you will:
- supervise and support the effective use of engineering laboratory environments, including test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment, ensuring safe work practices and appropriate use of tools and facilities.
- support the Hardware Manager to ensure products meet applicable regulatory, safety, and compliance requirements, where software is relevant.
- maintain and build engineering capability through recruitment, mentoring, coaching, and ongoing professional development of team members.
- work collaboratively across the business to ensure occupational health and safety standards are maintained and continuously improved, particularly in relation to engineering laboratory
activities, equipment use, and prototype handling.
About You:
You have:
- relevant tertiary qualification in software or electronics engineering or equivalent
experience.
- at least 15 years demonstrable industry experience working in embedded software engineering.
- experience working in other types of software development teams is advantageous.
- 5 years previous experience building and managing embedded software engineering teams.
- experience working with outsourced engineering service providers is advantageous.
- experience with contemporary business software tools such as Confluence and Monday
advantageous.
- experience with modern software development practices, including version control, CI/CD,
and automated testing
