About Us

ADA Australia is a long‑standing, independent, not‑for‑profit organisation advocating for the rights, safety and wellbeing of older people and people with disability across Queensland. For more than 30 years, we’ve delivered high‑quality advocacy, information and education services that empower individuals to understand their rights and make informed decisions.

Our work is grounded in strong governance, ethical practice and a commitment to continuous improvement. Every team member contributes to a culture that values integrity, accountability, respect and person‑centred service. The Finance Team plays a critical role in supporting this mission by ensuring our financial systems, reporting and compliance frameworks remain robust, transparent and aligned with legislative and funding requirements.

About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a Senior Finance Officer to lead key financial management functions and oversee a small finance team. This role is central to maintaining strong financial governance, supporting organisational performance, and ensuring ADA Australia meets its internal and external financial obligations.

Working closely with the Manager, Business Support Services, you’ll oversee financial systems, policies, reporting, budgeting and compliance. You’ll collaborate with the CEO, Executive Management Team and grant managers, while strengthening staff capability through clear, accessible financial guidance.

In this role, you will:

  • Establish and maintain robust financial policies, processes and controls.
  • Oversee financial management systems, delegations and fraud‑prevention measures.
  • Lead annual budgeting and ongoing budget monitoring with grant managers.
  • Prepare budgets for tenders and new initiatives.
  • Deliver accurate, timely internal and external financial reporting.
  • Liaise with auditors and coordinate implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Oversee a small finance team across AP, AR, credit cards, reconciliations, statutory returns and payroll imports.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback and continuous learning opportunities for team members.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate wages, entitlements and superannuation processing.

About You

You’re an experienced finance professional with strong leadership capability and a commitment to high‑quality financial governance. You enjoy improving systems, supporting staff and working collaboratively across an organisation.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting or a related discipline.
  • At least five years’ experience in a similar senior finance role.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary financial management practices and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring staff.
  • Experience across budgeting, financial analysis and high‑quality reporting.
  • Proficiency with financial systems (ideally Microsoft Dynamics/WIISE), MS Office and reporting tools.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, including with auditors and internal stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

  • Current National Criminal History Certificate (less than 3 years old)

In return for your hard work, you will receive:

  • Competitive base salary + generous salary packaging options
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements
  • A senior role with meaningful organisational impact, offering professional development and exposure to executive‑level financial operations
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • A supportive, values‑driven workplace committed to integrity and continuous improvement.
