We are looking for a experienced Secondary Design Lead (HV & SCADA) to join our team and play a key role in leading the design, coordination, and delivery of secondary systems and SCADA for high-voltage substations and renewable energy integration projects. This position ensures high-quality, compliant, and efficient design deliverables across protection, control, metering, and communication systems while providing technical support to the primary design team as required. The role also drives continuous improvement, mentoring, and collaboration within ACLE’s Engineering division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the HV Secondary and SCADA design scope for transmission and distribution substations.
- Develop protection, control, and SCADA philosophies, design reports, and interface control documents.
- Design and review secondary drawings, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
- Develop and review SCADA architecture, RTU configurations, IED integration, and communication network layouts.
- Ensure compliance with client and network operator standards (AusNet, Powercor, SAPN, TransGrid) and relevant Australian/IEC standards (AS2067, AS62271, IEC61850, etc.).
- Support the Primary Design Team on interface coordination, protection logic, and control integration.
- Review and verify deliverables prepared by internal team members and subcontracted designers. Provide technical leadership in Safety-in-Design (SID) and ensure legislative compliance.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers in secondary and SCADA design principles and project execution.
- Liaise with clients, OEMs, and system integrators to clarify design requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Support FAT/SAT and commissioning planning activities, ensuring designs are practical and testable.
- Contribute to proposal preparation, tender reviews, and business development initiatives.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry standards relevant to secondary and SCADA systems.
What will you bring to this role?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 12+ years of post-graduate experience in HV Secondary Systems and SCADA design.
- Experience across transmission and distribution substations, renewable integration, or BESS projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in protection and control system design, SCADA integration, and AC/DC auxiliary systems.
- Working knowledge of IEC61850-based communication systems is highly advantageous.
- RPEQ and RPEV registrations
- Strong understanding of primary substation layouts and interface coordination.
- Experience reviewing designs, managing external vendors, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in secondary design tools (AutoCAD Electrical).
- Familiarity with commissioning and testing processes for substation secondary and SCADA systems.
