Cafe Team Leader

Are you passionate about great food, exceptional service, and leading people in a world-class visitor environment? The Waitangi Treaty Grounds is seeking an energetic Café Team Leader to support the daily operations of our Whare Waka Café and help deliver an outstanding hospitality experience to visitors from Aotearoa and around the world.

Reporting to the Executive Chef, this role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with people, and leads by example.

What you’ll be doing | Te whakamahere

As the Café Team Leader, you will play a key role in ensuring smooth daily service and a welcoming, high-quality experience for all visitors. You will support the Executive Chef with front-of-house leadership and operational excellence, including:

  • Leading and supporting front-of-house café staff during service
  • Ensuring consistent customer service standards
  • Maintaining café presentation, cleanliness, and flow
  • Assisting with staff training, onboarding, and rostering
  • Using initiative to resolve customer issues in a positive, professional manner
  • Supporting stock control, wastage management, and daily cash-up processes
  • Upholding Waitangi Treaty Grounds’ values and expectations
  • Working collaboratively with back-of-house to ensure timely service and smooth communication
  • Acting as Duty Manager to ensure compliance with Sale & Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

What you’ll need to be successful | Ō Pūkenga

This is a permanent minimum 30 hour role suited to someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, providing world-class customer service and interacting with people from all over the world. Our ideal candidate will:

  • Previous experience in hospitality or café service (team leader or senior café/server preferred)
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • A commitment to delivering warm, high-quality customer experience
  • The confidence to lead a team and motivate others
  • Strong organisation, reliability, and attention to detail
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure and problem-solve
  • Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and rostered shifts
