Counsellor-FDV Great Southern

Healing Services • Albany, Western Australia 6330, Australia • Full-time

Description

Aboriginal people are strongly encouraged to apply.

ABOUT US:

Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women’s refuges, who were concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a ‘healing’ approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven ‘patch-up’ approach.

Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community-based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.

1. Tertiary qualification in psychology/social work or Diploma in Counselling or a minimum of five years’ work experience working in similar field.

3. Experience in supporting families and children, particularly those who are vulnerable, at risk or in disadvantaged communities, to improve functioning, safety and child development.

4. Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Terms of Reference and cultural competency.

5. Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies, community service providers, relevant community stakeholders, and children and young people.

6. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
