About the Y
The Y Geelong is a for purpose, not-for-profit community organisation celebrating 70 years servicing the community across recreation, camping, youth, and children’s services.
The Y Newtown Stadium was opened in 1996. It is one of the major sports centres in Geelong region. The Centre hosts a number of prominent sporting associations:
- Southside Netball.
- The Y Basketball Club
- The Y Gymnastics program
The facility comprises of two courts and gymnastics facility.

The Y North Geelong is a satellite Gymnastics program at the Arena Complex in North Geelong. Along with Newtown Stadium it is one of the major Gymnastics Centres in the Geelong region. The Y hosts a number Gymnastics program that will be transitioned to be managed and administrated through centralised systems based at Newtown.
The facility comprises of one gymnastics facility set up predominately for the conducting of recreational and competitive gymnastics classes.
Volunteering responsibilities may include:
- Assisting in various tasks and projects as assigned by the Y.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals and objectives.
- Participate in community outreach programs and events.
- Contribute to fundraising efforts by assisting in planning and executing events.
- Engage with program participants, offering guidance, mentorship, and support.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the Y.

The Y Geelong Board and Management are committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. All applicants must undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:
- a national criminal history check;
- an international criminal history checks where applicants have worked overseas;
- holding or obtaining a valid Working with Children Card;
- Three reference checks.
The successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People policies and practices which include; safeguarding children and young people induction, annual SCYP training programs & committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout terms of volunteering.
