About Xestro
Xestro is an Australian healthcare software company that helps specialist doctors manage their patients and run their practices. Our cloud-based platform is used daily in hundreds of busy clinics across Australia by thousands of healthcare providers.
We’re based in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, close to the Sunshine Plaza, and have recently moved into a multi story office to support our next phase of growth.
Our product is a large PHP codebase with a frontend built using React and jQuery running on AWS. We’re focused on developing real, high-usage software and features, while also modernising and scaling up our tech stack as fast as possible.
The Role
You’ll report to an Engineering Lead and work alongside engineers with 5–20+ years of experience, contributing to a production system used every day in real healthcare settings. The work spans backend systems, APIs, and frontend user interfaces, with opportunities to learn backend, frontend, or full-stack.
This role suits engineers who enjoy improving complex, business-critical systems with care, pragmatism, and good engineering judgement.

You may come from formal study, self-directed learning, or hands-on industry experience – from a startup, enterprise, or anywhere in between.

You’ll Be a Strong Fit If You Have
- Experience with at least one backend language (PHP, Java, C#, Python, or similar)
- Frontend experience with React and/or jQuery, including maintaining existing UIs
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL or equivalent)
- Strong debugging and optimisation skills
- 3+ years of professional software development experience (flexible based on capability)
- Experience working in a full-stack environment, or close collaboration across frontend and backend
Highly Desirable Experience
- API design and third-party integrations
- Database optimisation and query performance tuning
- High-performance or high-availability systems
- Unit and integration testing
- Security, privacy, and data protection practices
- AWS and cloud-native services
- Docker and/or Kubernetes
