About the role:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Associate Director of Operations, in maintaining compliance with accreditation standards, legislative requirements and procedures to achieve and maintain evidence-based, culturally safe and effective practice in primary health care. The Clinical Nurse Consultant will also perform a key role in the provision of clinical guidance, clinical leadership and support to nursing staff.
The role is expected to contribute to clinical nursing services for clients, including immunisations, as required.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant is supervised by the Associate Director of Operations and the position supervises the Immunisation Nurse, which is a limited time funded position to increase immunisations across all clinics within Wuchopperen, The Clinical Nurse Consultant works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Operations and Director Medical Services to ensure key responsibilities are met.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide clinical and professional leadership to the Nursing staff across all programs and clinics within the Primary Health Care Portfolio including leading Nursing recruitment for Wuchopperen Health Services.
- Provide orientation, clinical induction and ongoing education support for nursing staff, including assisting the Primary Health Care Leadership (PHCL) team manage and improve performance, clinical standards and make recommendations to the Clinical Governance Reference Group around policy and procedures relating to nursing care.
- Provide Associate Director of Operations, with guidance in regard to training required for clinical care including input in the development of KPI’s in Employee Review and Development Plans for Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Midwives, including recommendations for mandatory training requirements for all nursing staff across the organisation.
- Active member of the Senior Leadership Team and Clinical Reference Group providing clinical nursing input, advice and recommendations to both.
- Coordinate the organisation’s clinical asset management, procurement and stock control procedures, including overseeing the purchasing of all nursing clinical supplies, including management of clinical assets list and co-ordination of annual servicing and calibration.
- Support the Registered Nurse (Immunisation) in the management of Cold Chain Orders and supply in accordance with RACGP standards and legislative requirements.
- Provide support to management with the development, review and audit of clinical protocols and guidelines. All audits will be conducted conforming with accreditation requirements. The recommendations and findings will be submitted to Management.
- Provide registered nurse level care to clients in accordance with scope of practice, qualifications and registration, including managing urgent recalls as required.
- Gather and record statistical data relevant to measuring performance against agreed indicators and participate in review and evaluation activities.
- Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Work within Wuchopperen’s Policies and Procedures including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Health and Safety requirements and instructions and advise of any concerns about safe, effective service delivery in the workplace.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes and participate in quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with relevant standards and safe, effective service delivery.

Core Capabilities:
For applicants to be successful in this role, they should demonstrate:
- Demonstrated extensive experience in medication administration, education, accreditation, auditing, special projects preferably within a Primary Health Care setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Proven experience in professional line management of a team of nursing employees.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver evidence based clinical and primary health care, together with an understanding of the concept of community controlled primary health care.
- Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Demonstrated ability to meet and work within the core values and behaviours of Wuchopperen.
Qualifications and experience:
- Qualification of a degree in Nursing and Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division1) with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- A minimum of five years’ experience preferably in Primary Health Care
Requirements:
- Immunisation endorsement obtained in Queensland or willingness to obtain within 6 months of appointment.
- It is a condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) and hepatitis B
- It is recommended for the employee to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
- All employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, students, visitors, volunteers and fellow staff members. Employees must report any hazards or incidents, co-operate in emergency drills, undertake Workplace H&S training as required, and lodge risk assessments for all external and internal risk activities.
- Proof of qualifications and current registration must be provided as an attachment to the application.
- Possession of a current CPR certificate or commitment to obtain within the first six weeks of employment is essential.
- Possession of a current Queensland “CA” class driver’s licence is essential.
- Commitment to work within the principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control including a willingness to develop the leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
- Ability to use Microsoft products and the ability to use or willingness to gain proficiency in the client information management systems.
Desirable Requirements:
- Qualification in Midwifery and Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
