Description

Wirraka Maya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is a community controlled Aboriginal health service providing holistic health care to Aboriginal peoples in Port Hedland, South Hedland and surrounding communities.

We are seeking a NDIS Support Worker to join our organisation based in South Hedland.

The role of the NDIS Support Worker is to provide psychosocial support education and resources to participants and community members; promoting widespread awareness of the NDIS and transition supports provided to clients of Wirraka Maya , with the aim of facilitating recovery and support to community members that are testing eligibility for the NDIS.

The successful candidate will:

• Cert IV in Mental Health, Community Services and / or related fields OR demonstrated experience in working in a related field with a view to gaining qualifications;

• Exposure to working with / an understanding of mental illness, including knowledge and understanding the effect of mental health illness on the lives of individuals, their families and peers;

• Ability to work closely with a wide variety of people and personality types, including those with disability, those who have been institutionalised or incarcerated, people at risk of homelessness, participants with drug and alcohol issues, disadvantaged youth;

• Strong understanding of the recovery process and belief in providing client-focused recovery pathways based on client needs, strengths and goals;

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively in a team;

• Capacity to advocate effectively on behalf of clients and work directly with them, to provide support at many levels (emotional support, relationship-building, accessing community resources and developing life skills);

• Experience or willingness to deliver group programs (mutual support, focus groups) to facilitate care and education;

• National Police Clearance;

• Current Drivers Licence;

• NDIS Clearance;

• WA Working with Children Check.
