Who we are
We are a long-established Australian manufacturer of heavy transport equipment based in Mulgrave NSW with a rich history since 1988 in designing, fabricating and installing skip loaders, hook lifts, truck bodies and related lifting solutions across Australia. We are seeking a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter to join our Mulgrave workshop team and support the assembly, installation and maintenance of our specialised heavy-vehicle equipment for customers nationwide.
About the role
Key duties and responsibilities include:
•
Measure and mark out materials for fabrication and fitting work.
•
Interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic diagrams and work instructions to determine the right materials, tools and sequence of operations.
•
Cut, drill, grind and shape metal components using hand tools and workshop machinery to the required dimensions and tolerances.
•
Assemble fabricated parts and sub-assemblies to build and install skip loaders, hook lifts, truck bodies, cranes, side loaders and tarping systems on heavy vehicles.
•
Set up tools and machinery for the fabrication and fitting process, including setting guides, stops and other controls and selecting the correct cutting and shaping tools.
•
Operate specialised tools and equipment safely, including lifting gear, power tools, machining equipment and hydraulic test equipment.
•
Monitor the fabrication, fitting and testing process, check clearances and alignments, and adjust settings where necessary to ensure quality and safe operation.
•
Diagnose and repair mechanical and hydraulic faults in equipment and associated machinery, and carry out regular preventative maintenance to minimise downtime.
•
Keep accurate records of work performed, including maintenance logs, job cards and safety checks, and follow all workshop WHS procedures and safety protocols.
Skills and experience required
•
A qualification in Mechanical Trade (Fitting) or a closely related field.
•
At least 2-3 years proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial, manufacturing or heavy equipment environment.
•
Demonstrated competence in mechanical assembly, installation and commissioning of complex equipment, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, with strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
•
Sound knowledge of WHS requirements in a workshop and heavy-vehicle environment, including safe use of lifting gear, lock-out/tag-out procedures and adherence to company safety policies.
•
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and hydraulic diagrams, and to work both independently and collaboratively within a production and service team to meet deadlines and quality standards.
