West Daly Regional Council is seeking a qualified Carpenter to join our Trades team in Wadeye, Northern Territory. About the Role

Reporting to the Trades Coordinator, you will deliver a broad range of carpentry, construction, repairs and maintenance works across Council‑owned buildings and infrastructure in Wadeye, Peppimenarti, Palumpa and surrounding homelands.

This hands‑on role suits a practical, reliable tradesperson who enjoys variety, autonomy and working as part of a collaborative team in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver carpentry and building maintenance works to Council facilities
  2. Carry out internal and external repairs, renovations and upgrades
  3. Supervise and support a Trades Assistant
  4. Mentor and engage Indigenous trainees
  5. Prepare job estimates, material lists and work schedules
  6. Manage tools, plant, stock and materials
  7. Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and building codes
  8. Complete reports, records and monthly updates
  9. Maintain clean, safe and organised worksites
  10. Perform works including:
    • Carpentry, framing and fencing
    • Tiling, plastering and painting
    • Basic plumbing and concreting
    • General maintenance and building repairs

About You

You are a motivated and safety‑focused Carpenter / Maintenance Tradesperson who works well independently and respects community, culture and teamwork.

Essential

  • Trade qualification in Carpentry, Joinery or related building trade (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in building maintenance, construction or renovations
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and drawings
  • Sound knowledge of Work Health & Safety
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • White Card
  • NT Driver’s Licence
  • National Criminal History Check (or ability to obtain)
  • Working with Children Card (or ability to obtain)
  • Basic computer and reporting skills

Desirable

  • Experience supervising or coordinating trades assistants
  • MIG welding and concreting experience
  • Machinery or plant tickets
  • Working at Heights and Confined Spaces (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience working in remote or Indigenous communities
