Road Safety Advisor

Full Time – Based Regional WA or Metro

Total Package $111,607.71 per annum (inclusive of superannuation)

(Breakdown of remuneration – Base $99,649.74 + 12% Super $11,957.97)

WALGA is seeking a Road Safety Advisor to join our RoadWise team and implement national and state road safety objectives through the principles of health promotion.

Based either in the Midwest/Gascoyne region or our West Leederville office, you’ll understand the unique strengths and challenges of regional communities and bring excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to build positive relationships.

You will play a key role in building the capacity and capability of assigned RoadWise Councils as they plan, deliver, monitor and communicate, effective, evidence informed local road safety action. This is meaningful work where those road safety actions directly contribute to the reduction and prevention of serious road trauma.

In this role, you will

  • Engage regularly with RoadWise Councils to guide planning, delivery, monitoring and communicating local road safety actions.
  • Provide advice on evidence‑based and safe system practices to help Councils strengthen their approach.
  • Develop and review quarterly workplans and participate in monthly progress meetings.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, articles and case studies tailored to a range of audiences.
  • Build and maintain relationships – working closely with Local Governments, regional partners and stakeholders to identify barriers, share insights, and promote better practice road safety.
  • Represent WALGA at regional forums, committees and working groups, sharing updates and insights.

How you’ll make an impact

As a Road Safety Advisor, relationships sit at the heart of what you do.

You will use your confident communication skills to connect with Councils, provide tailored support, and guide them through adopting evidence-based approaches aligned with national and state road safety objectives.

You will also draw on your research and analytical skills to source credible, evidence-informed insights that help Local Governments develop holistic and sustainable road safety approaches.

By promoting and showcasing the incredible work of RoadWise Councils, you’ll share successful initiatives across the sector, inspiring innovation and celebrating the practical achievements of communities working to prevent harm on their roads. Knowledge of Local Government operations, the WA road safety strategy and public health principles will be well regarded.

A “C” class driver’s license and willingness to travel are essential.

What is RoadWise?

WALGA’s RoadWise program is funded by the Western Australian Government to engage and support Local Governments to contribute to national and state road safety objectives.

RoadWise engages RoadWise Councils in strategic and sustainable initiatives towards embedding systems-based approaches to road safety. This happens through activities designed to build the capacity and capability of Local Governments by:

  • Providing direct assistance and support to RoadWise Councils
  • Sharing information and facilitating the transfer of knowledge
  • Inspiring and motiving best practice and,
  • Developing sector policy and advocating on behalf of Local Governments and their communities.
