Located: WALGA HQ West Leederville / on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Are you a road asset management expert ready to step beyond day‑to‑day operations and
influence the bigger picture?
This newly created position offers the opportunity to move into a genuinely strategic role, providing high‑level advice and leadership that helps shape how more than $45 billion in community assets, including roads and bridges, airports, utilities, and public facilities are planned, managed and optimised across Western Australian Local Government.
As Infrastructure Asset Management Specialist, you’ll apply your technical expertise in an advisory and influence‑focused role, working closely with Local Governments, State agencies and industry partners. Success in this role is built on strong relationships – building credibility, facilitating conversations, and influencing policy, practice and decision‑making across the sector.
Rather than managing infrastructure directly, WALGA works with and on behalf of Local Governments to build capability, influence policy, respond to emerging issues and promote consistent, sector‑wide approaches to asset management. This role plays a key part in that system‑leadership function.
In this role, you will:
- Provide strategic advice and guidance on asset management best practice, with a strong focus on roads and related infrastructure.
- Act as a subject matter expert, engaging with Local Governments, State agencies and sector stakeholders.
- Prepare discussion papers, policy advice, submissions and guidance materials that support informed decision‑making and future planning.
- Interpret legislation, funding requirements and policy changes relevant to Local Government infrastructure including disaster recovery and resilience.
- Research best practice and bring fresh thinking to the WA Local Government sector.
About you:
You are a technically credible, relationship‑focused professional who enjoys influencing outcomes, not just analysing data. You bring experience in roads or infrastructure asset management, strong communication skills, and the confidence to operate across diverse stakeholder groups.
At WALGA, we value curiosity, collaboration, and people who genuinely want to explore how the local government infrastructure landscape operates, and who are just as energised as we are about helping our Members succeed.
A C-class driver’s license and willingness to travel are essential.
Why you’ll love working here.
Employees have the opportunity to work on unique and meaningful projects that deliver real benefits to Local Governments and the communities they serve. We foster a culture of positive risk-taking, guided by one of our strategic pillars ‘Explore’, and underpinned by our value of Curiosity.
Our workplace encourages a spirit of enquiry and an innovation mindset. We’re proud to offer benefits that genuinely make a difference. At WALGA, you’ll enjoy six weeks of annual leave plus an extra day off on the anniversary of when you started, because your journey with us is worth celebrating. Our Thrive wellbeing program runs all year and is designed to support every aspect of wellbeing. Mental, physical, and social through education, resources, and practical initiatives.
We’re committed to helping you grow, both personally and professionally, and we’re driving a tech roadmap that’s shaping a data-led future. There are plenty of ways to get involved too, with cross-organisational working groups such as Reconciliation, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainability.
And that’s just the start. You’ll also find an active social club run by employees, flexible working options, fantastic end-of-trip facilities, and a modern office designed for collaboration. We’re proud to be recognised as a Menopause Friendly Australia employer, because creating an inclusive workplace matters to us.
