About the Position

VACSAL have been funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and Family Safety Victoria (FSV) to deliver a new and innovative trial program in the North/East Metropolitan (NEMA) and Hume/Moreland (HMA) region.

This role is to provide the Housing Support component of the program for men who use violence of family violence within Family Safety Victoria’s (FSV) Place for Change Program (PFCP), an accommodation-based service for men who use violence of family violence. VACSAL will lead the Place for Change Program Case Management component.

Duties

• Provide an integrated, coordinated, safely led response to men who use violence towards family members that prioritises: the safety, protection and wellbeing of children and young people; the safety and empowerment of women; and the responsibility and accountability of men who use violence in the family.

• Make referrals and liaise with other support services, as required in a case management context focusing on supports that will provide stability in men’s lives.

• Conduct initial intake assessment to establish suitability for Program.

• Provide individual work to support readiness for behaviour change.

• Undertaking direct work with men, conducting assessments, case plans, reviews and referrals.

• Leading the coordination of risk assessment and management processes and proactively sharing information with other services involved in responding to or supporting the perpetrator.

• Provide support in the transition from previous housing into medium term accommodation identified under the program.

• Working towards an end of care coordination with a result that the client will have well developed connection to social and community services to enable the client to manage their own needs and have the capacity to gain the right supports when/if they need them.

• Working with the perpetrator to develop an exit plan for the cessation of the medium term accommodation option.

• Provide a coordinated housing and support approach.

• Maintain accurate records, high standard case notes, and complete data and reporting as required.

• Attending and contributing to team and program meetings.

• Advocate to increase the awareness of family violence across the broader community.

• Ensure data is up to date and maintained in a timely manner.

• Ensure client notes and files are maintained.

• Ensure all documentation including assessments, safety plans and closure summaries are maintained and up to date.

• Ensure program guidelines are maintained in service delivery.

• Provide reports where required.

• Ensure procedures are conducted within appropriate standards.

• Attend mandatory training sessions (i.e. OH&S First Aid, Fire safety) and mandatory training specific to position.

• Assist with VACSAL community events such as Naidoc activities, sports carnivals etc.

• Attend VACSAL In Service and AGM Service annually.

• Create a yearly work plan, ensuring it aligns with your KPI’s and is in conjunction with your program and the Strategic Plan. Ensure it is updated bimonthly as part of your supervisor sessions.

• Attend bimonthly supervisor sessions.

• Undertake other duties that are peripheral to the main tasks, provided that such duties are reasonably within the employee’s skills, competence and training.

• Ensure you have a sound knowledge of all VACSAL programs.

Key Selection Criteria

1. Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent in line with the mandatory minimum qualification requirements for specialist family violence practitioners (or willingness to work towards).

2. Experience in working with men who use violence of Family Violence.

3. Case Management experience would be an advantage.

4. Knowledge and understanding of family violence and men’s use of violence against women and its impact on children / adolescents.

5. Demonstrated ability to engage a wide cross section of the community including survivors and men who use violence of family violence.

6. Demonstrated understanding of, and a commitment to, Aboriginal cultural safety.

7. Demonstrated understanding of the varying needs of people who have a disability or come from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, LGBTIQ communities and other groups that may experience intersectional oppressions.

8. Capacity to develop relationships and partnerships to effectively support the work.

9. Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to effectively and independently organise one’s workload, set priorities, ensure adherence to service standards and established guidelines.

10. Well-developed communication skills, (both oral and written) with the capacity to prepare reports, maintain accurate client records, gather statistical data and correspond in a clear and concise language with the ability to assimilate information from varied sources.

• State-wide travel is a requirement of the role and a vehicle is available for work related travel. The successful applicant must hold a current Victorian driver’s license

• The successful applicant will be required to disclose any pre-existing injury/injuries and/or medical condition/s, which could be aggravated by the type of employment they are applying for.
