Summary of the role:

The Automation Superintendent is responsible for overseeing automation measurement systems on VICT’s Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASCs), Automatic Container Carriers (ACCs), and infrastructure.

Reporting to the Automation Manager, this role manages day-to-day automation issues, conducts root cause analysis on failures and system issues, and supports modernisation projects. The role also monitors spare parts inventory and manages obsolescence, working closely with IT and Operations to ensure equipment meets or exceeds KPIs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong computer literacy alongside a deep functional understanding of industrial networking, PLC and industrial PC architectures, and AC drive systems. By combining your expertise in automation measurement with a proactive approach to technical troubleshooting, you will play a critical role in optimizing our systems and redefining the future of maritime logistics.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Terminal Operations and IT departments to ensure automation measurement systems on ASCs, ACCs and infrastructure meet or exceed KPIs.
  • Modernisation Projects: Support and contribute to modernisation projects, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term equipment upgrade goals.
  • Technical Expertise: Utilise root cause analysis and management methodologies leveraging PLC, SCADA, and Server based systems for automation measurement systems.
  • Reporting: Prepare periodic management and/or customer reports and presentations.
  • Spare Parts and Obsolescence: Monitor spare parts inventory and manage obsolescence for automation systems, ensuring availability of critical components.
  • Safety and Environmental Awareness: Maintain awareness of safety and environmental requirements.
  • Technical Support: Assist internal engineering and automation teams with technical support.
  • Initiatives Management: Implement and manage automation initiatives for ASCs, ACCs and terminal infrastructure.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend new processes and technologies to improve quality, cost, or performance of automation systems.
  • Innovation Monitoring: Monitor new developments, methodologies, and technologies in automation measurement systems that may benefit the terminal.

    Desired Skills & Experience:

    • Experience with automation measurement systems on Container Handling Equipment including ASCs and ACCs in automated container terminals.
    • Strong computer skills (CAD, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.).
    • Strong understanding of industrial networking.
    • Strong understanding of PLC, industrial PC, AC drive systems, automation platforms and measurement systems.
    • Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to identify potential risks and take proactive measures.
    • Strong bias for action and ability to energise others to achieve organisational goals and objectives.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, and other company and discipline-specific software applications.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills with management, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
