Hume Riverina Community Legal
Service (HRCLS) is a service of Upper Murray Family Care (UMFC) – a proudly independent, community-managed organisation, dedicated to strengthening families and individuals across North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina of NSW and an organisation committed to social justice, inclusion and trauma-informed care.
HRCLS is a generalist, place-based, cross-border community legal centre providing free legal assistance in civil and family law to those who are most in need: people experiencing barriers to accessing justice who have intersecting legal and non-legal problems. We do this through partnerships with community, education, health and specialist family violence services.
About the Role
HRCLS is looking for a Paralegal to join the Family Law and Family Violence Practice.
The Paralegal will:
- Support the delivery of services within the family law and family violence (FLFV) practice
- Provide paralegal support to the Principal Lawyer, Managing Lawyer, and the broader FLFV legal practice, where capacity allows
- Support lawyers with client communication, file management, and diary coordination.
- Draft legal documents and assist with court filings and case preparations.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal aid applications and briefs for counsel.
- Conduct client intake for individuals
- Collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to program management and data collection.
- Assist in delivering and evaluating community legal education and law reform projects.
- Actively contribute to safe and inclusive workplace practices.
Is This You?
To be eligible, you will be enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor of Laws or a relevant legal qualification (e.g. Cert IV in Legal Services), or have relevant experience in a legal office.
- Additionally, the following will be highly valued:
- Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, and data accuracy.
- Compassion and the ability to work respectfully with people affected by trauma or disadvantage.
- Strong administrative, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic legal setting.
- High-level computer literacy across MS Office and client systems.
