Health Programs Officer

Stirling, Western Australia 6021, Australia • Part-time

Description

The Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre is a dynamic organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We have built a thriving community by providing quality health services, innovative education, and peer support that goes beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. Having established a reputation for excellence and empathy through a team with lived experience, we are now entering a defining moment as we launch our 2030 Strategy to expand our social impact.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Health Programs Officer to join our dedicated team in Perth on a part-time basis (0.4 FTE). This is a unique, grant-funded 4-year fixed-term contract designed to empower the informal support networks surrounding children and young adults living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

In this role, you will bridge the gap between clinical management and daily life by providing customised, practical training to informal carers – such as grandparents, extended family, babysitters, and support workers. Your mission is to ensure that individuals with T1D are safe, supported, and well-understood whenever they are in the care of their broader community.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Education Delivery & Training: Deliver practical T1D management training through a flexible blend of face-to-face sessions and digital/telehealth appointments across Western Australia.
  • Empowering Carers: Apply motivational interviewing and active listening to build the competence and confidence of carers in managing T1D-related tasks safely.
  • Curriculum Management: Proactively review and refine training curriculum, booklets, and checklists to ensure resources remain current and customisable to a child’s specific routine.
  • Governance & Reporting: Measure satisfaction and confidence scores to evaluate program impact and report data against WA Health grant-funded KPI requirements.

What You Will Bring

  • T1D Expertise: Lived experience with type 1 diabetes or significant experience working directly with those living with the condition.
  • Health Education Experience: Demonstrated experience delivering health education or training programs to non-clinical audiences.
  • Communication Skills: High-level interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to build rapport and confidence in others.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A commitment to our values of Action, Collaboration, Empathy, Excellence, Flexibility, and Integrity.

Benefits

  • Salary Packaging: Maximise your take-home pay with Not-for-Profit salary packaging benefits.
  • Supportive & Flexible Culture: Join a high-performing team that values flexibility and provides a truly supportive environment where you can do your best work.
  • Meaningful Impact: See the direct results of your efforts in the thriving community of children and adults living with type 1 diabetes that we serve every day.
