Summary:

Tuley, a family-owned disability support organisation, is seeking a calm, caring, and patient female Disability Support Worker to provide structured, person-centred care to a mature lady with Down syndrome and limited vision and speech in Oldbury. This role is essential to creating emotional safety through consistency and respectful communication, ensuring the participant’s dignity and well-being are upheld.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sensory-informed engagement through reading aloud, selecting appropriate music, and using descriptive language to assist the participant in navigating her environment.
  • Deliver dignified personal care with the highest level of respect, privacy, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Support the participant through predictable routines and sensory awareness tailored to her unique way of engaging with the world.
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries while working collaboratively with a family-centred team.
  • Adapt to low-verbal interactions and non-verbal cues to enhance communication.
  • Establish and nurture respectful, professional relationships with the participant and her family.

Qualifications:

  • Female (genuine occupational requirement)
  • Lives locally — ideally within 20 minutes of Oldbury
  • Flexibility across days and times
  • Ability to build respectful, professional relationships
  • Experience with personal care
  • Good physical fitness
  • Current Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Experience supporting individuals with vision impairment is preferred
