About Trustport
Trustport is a regulated financial services business that serves the real estate market.
We’re building a single, secure platform for managing property deposits. The goal is to reduce fraud risk, ensure compliance, and remove the administrative burden that costs Australian real estate businesses hundreds of millions each year. We’ve raised capital, assembled our founding team, and are in the middle of our pilot with a committed cohort of agencies.
The Role
Trustport holds and moves other people’s money. That means customer operations, compliance, and financial governance aren’t separate functions. They’re all part of the same operational system. How we onboard agencies, how funds are managed, how we meet our regulatory obligations, and how we report on all of it are deeply connected. This role owns that system.
You’ll report to the CEO and work alongside the CTO as part of the core leadership team. While as an early stage start up, we leverage strong fractional capability across legal, finance, and licensing, we need someone in the business every day tying it all together.
What you’ll own
-
Customer operations and agency engagement. Lead the end-to-end customer operations function. Drive and manage the team responsible for day-to-day engagement and service delivery, ensuring all processes scale efficiently from dozens of agencies to hundreds. As a senior leader, you will maintain a customer-focused presence by providing strategic oversight, managing escalations, and engaging with agency principals as required.
-
Compliance, risk, and regulatory. Coordination of Trustport’s regulatory obligations, including the AFSL/CAR structure, AML/CTF compliance, escrow trust arrangements, and evolving obligations under AML Tranche 2. Own the risk register and build the compliance frameworks needed as we scale toward Series A.
-
Finance and legal. Coordinate with fractional resources across finance and legal. Work with the fractional CFO on cash flow, capital planning, and reporting. Manage external counsel across commercial and regulatory matters.
-
Governance and board. Prepare board packs, maintain the risk register, and bring structure to governance and reporting cadence.
-
Strategy and commercials. Partner with the CEO on business strategy, capital planning, and go-to-market execution. Contribute to Series A planning.
-
Metrics and performance. Define and own the operational KPIs. Use data to find bottlenecks and drive improvement.
-
Product collaboration. Represent operations and the customer in product decisions. Make sure the roadmap reflects compliance obligations and customer needs.
-
People and leadership. Build and lead the operations and compliance functions. Set the tone for how the team works day to day. Shape the hiring plan as the agency base grows.
Who you are
- You’re the kind of operator who brings structure to chaos. You can take something messy and undefined, work out what matters, and put a framework around it. You move with pace but not recklessness. You’re rigorous and disciplined, and you bring that standard to the people and processes around you. When things don’t have an obvious answer, you find a creative path through.
- Comfortable being the first senior operations hire and standing up functions from scratch in a startup or scale-up.
- 7+ years in financial services, fintech, or payments, with depth across operations, compliance, and regulatory matters. Strong understanding of Australian financial services regulation including AFSL frameworks, AML/CTF, and payments regulation.
- Client-facing and commercially sharp. You can read a P&L, run a training session manage an escalation, and make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, cost, and quality. You understand the rhythms of serving hundreds of small businesses and thousands of individual users.
- If you meet the requirements to be nominated as a Responsible Manager under ASIC’s RG105 guidelines, that’s a significant plus but not essential. Exposure to real estate or proptech is helpful but not required.
- Melbourne-based and happy to work from the office alongside the leadership team.
