💰 $125,000 – $140,000 + super Together Business is an award-winning Indigenous-led Chartered Accounting firm supporting Indigenous businesses and social enterprises across Australia.

We combine strong compliance capability with advisory and economic development work that supports Indigenous enterprise growth.

As we enter our next stage of growth, we are seeking a Practice Operations & Compliance Manager to lead the operational spine of our firm.

Our Glebe office sits at the centre of a vibrant client hub, with many of our social enterprise and impact-focused clients located nearby.

The Role

This role leads the day-to-day operational delivery of our bookkeeping and compliance services.

Your focus will be ensuring:

  • Compliance deadlines are consistently met
  • Work is prepared to documented standards
  • Files are review-ready before Director sign-off
  • Team members operate with clear expectations and accountability
  • Workflow runs smoothly across local and offshore staff

This role combines people leadership, workflow management, and operational discipline.

It is not a purely technical tax role.

Technical tax advice can be accessed externally where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the compliance calendar (BAS, IAS, tax returns, financial statements)
  • Allocate workflow across the team and offshore support
  • Monitor workflow and capacity across engagements
  • Enforce documentation and preparation standards
  • Conduct quality control before Director review
  • Lead performance conversations with team members
  • Manage offshore workflow and output quality
  • Identify bottlenecks and escalate capacity issues early

Relationship Management

A key part of this role is working with Indigenous business owners and social enterprise leaders, many of whom operate in complex environments.

You will need to:

  • Build respectful and trusted client relationships
  • Communicate financial and compliance issues clearly
  • Explain technical concepts in plain English
  • Support clients who may be experiencing financial or operational pressure

Experience working with vulnerable communities, community organisations, or social enterprises will be highly regarded.

Strong empathy and professional boundaries are essential.

Who This Role Is Perfect For

This role suits someone who enjoys leading teams and running systems, not just doing technical work.

You will thrive if you:

  • Enjoy managing workflow and keeping teams organised
  • Are comfortable returning work to uphold standards
  • Like mentoring and developing junior staff
  • Prefer solving operational problems rather than doing everything yourself
  • Take pride in building systems that run smoothly

Who This Role Is Not For

This role is not suited to someone looking for a purely technical tax role.

If you prefer:

  • Working independently on complex tax issues
  • Minimal people management
  • Limited workflow oversight

this position is unlikely to be the right fit.

About You

You will likely have:

  • Experience managing an accounting or compliance team
  • Strong workflow and process management capability
  • Confidence enforcing professional standards
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in plain English
  • Experience supervising distributed or offshore teams

Experience working with community organisations, Indigenous businesses, social enterprises, or vulnerable clients will be highly regarded.

Deep technical tax specialisation is not required.

Leadership capability and operational discipline are far more important.
