The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end payroll services across a portfolio of client organisations. This position is ideal for a professional with a strong understanding of Australian payroll compliance, experience interpreting awards, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple client relationships in an outsourced service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer full-cycle payroll processing for a range of clients using platforms such as Xero Payroll, Tanda, and Employment Hero.
- Interpret and apply modern awards, enterprise agreements, and Fair Work legislation to ensure accurate and compliant payroll practices.
- Manage superannuation contributions, leave accruals, termination calculations, and Single Touch Payroll (STP) obligations.
- Liaise directly with client organisations to provide timely advice, respond to payroll queries, and assist with onboarding, audits, and system reviews.
- Collaborate with internal teams to prepare payroll journals and reconcile payroll accounts as part of month-end processes.
- Support the implementation and improvement of payroll systems and internal procedures.
About You
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll processing, preferably within an outsourced payroll, public practice, or client-facing environment.
- Thorough understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including Fair Work and relevant taxation and superannuation requirements.
- Proficient in cloud-based payroll systems; experience with Xero and Employment Hero highly regarded.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with a client service mindset.
