Description

About Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC)

We are a not-for-profit, registered charitable organisation owned by members of the Wangka, Tjanpa and Lirga peoples. Based in the remote community of Wadeye (formerly Port Keats) in the NT’s Western Daly River region, we support the community across a broad range of services — including Housing & Construction, NDIS, Aged Care, Employment & Training, Enterprise Development, and more. Wadeye is one of Australia’s largest remote Indigenous communities.

About the Role

TDC is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Auto-Electrician to provide full mechanical and auto-electrical services to our entire TDC fleet and private customer vehicles. The TDC Workshop is located in Wadeye and services everything from 4WDs and light vehicles to heavy and light earth-moving equipment, and other plant and machinery. This is a live-in-community role, requiring strong customer relations skills and the ability to build and maintain good rapport with the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical servicing and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, braking systems, heavy plant, earth-moving machinery and general fleet vehicles.
  • Electrical and electronic system diagnostics, installation, maintenance, and repair — including wiring, alternators, starter motors, lighting, vehicle accessories, air-conditioning/electrical systems and other auto-electrical components.
  • Conducting routine maintenance, preventive servicing, troubleshooting, and testing of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Completing documentation, reporting on maintenance/repair history, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Selection Criteria / Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification (e.g. Diesel Mechanic, Auto-Electrician, Heavy Diesel Mechanic, or equivalent), with at least 2 years’ trade experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both mechanical and auto-electrical work — ideally a dual-trade background or experience across both domains. Dual-qualified technicians (mechanic + auto-electrician) are especially valuable.
  • Air-conditioning licence and/or NT Roadworthy Inspectors Licence (desired).
  • Australian driver’s licence, and ability to safely operate/drive a variety of vehicles and plant.
  • Valid Police Check.
  • Eligibility for necessary work / residential permits (NLC work/residential permits — with assistance from TDC).
  • Strong customer service skills, ability to work independently and within a team, and a respectful attitude to community and cultural values.

Benefits

  • Salary range AUD 90,000–99,000 p.a. + superannuation (Salary negotiable depending on qualifications and experience)
  • 6 weeks annual leave + 17.5% leave loading
  • Fully furnished accommodation provided
  • Relocation assistance up to AUD 1,500
  • Tax-effective Not-for-Profit salary-packaging benefits (up to AUD 15,899 tax-free)
  • Opportunity to work in a remote community, working on a diverse range of vehicles and equipment — from light 4WDs to heavy plant and machinery
