Supported Independent Living Cooperative (SILC)

Salary: 10 hours per week of House Manager administrative allowance + wages from face-to-face support

About SILC

SILC is a not-for-profit cooperative, and NDIS registered provider of supported independent living services. We believe that people with disability, together with their families, are best positioned to make decisions about where they live, who they live with, and who supports them.

We assist families to establish cooperatives that run family-governed homes for their family members. Our model achieves great outcomes when families are actively involved in the person’s life, creating safe, supportive environments where residents remain happy, healthy, and connected to their family, friends, and community.

About this Role:

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented House Manager to take executive responsibility to support and lead the operations of the Honey Myrtle Cooperative, which provides accommodation support services for a young adult female with cerebral palsy, intellectual disability and vision impairment.

Honey Myrtle is supported by 6 to 10 different support workers. As Cooperative House Manager, you will lead this team to meet the residents’ needs and ensure the smooth operation of the home.

Working Hours:

Flexibility to meet the needs of Honey Myrtle Cooperative including:

  • 10 hours per week of practice leadership/administration
  • Direct support shifts – to be determined later

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and embed NDIS values in organisational culture and practice
  • Build and maintain consistent good practice across all operations
  • Be actively present in the home environment to lead and develop the support team
  • Oversee and manage daily operations of the house
  • Provide direct support to residents, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks
  • Monitor and report on residents’ physical and emotional well-being
  • Collaborate with team members, families, and healthcare professionals
  • Manage staff rostering to match worker capabilities with residents’ needs and preferences
  • Establish a learning culture through debriefing, coaching, and feedback
  • Establish systems to support health and manage risk
  • Apply principles of positive behaviour support when implementing behaviour support plans

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • 3+ years working in the disability sector or residential care setting
  • Experience leading and managing teams
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with adults with physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of person-centred care and NDIS participants’ diverse needs
  • Strong knowledge of the NDIS and best practice approaches in disability services
  • Sound understanding of health and safety practices
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven leadership and management abilities
  • Sound organisational skills with ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in office IT applications

Qualifications and Checks:

  • NDIS Workers Screening Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificates (or willingness to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
  • Valid Australian Driver’s License
  • Relevant qualification in Community Services, Disability Support, or related field; or equivalent level work experience
  • Understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and NDIS Code of Conduct

Desirable Criteria

  • Roster and budget management experience
  • Experience in leading compliance and risk-related activities
  • Experience providing support with enteral feeding
  • Experience providing support with manual handling and assistive technology
