Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service
(STTARS) is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation that has been
operating in South Australia since 1991. We have no political or religious

About the role
We are seeking a bright, proactive, and culturally sensitive
Receptionist to provide first-contact, front-of-house support to the
organisation. Reporting to the Executive Support and Administration Lead, this
position will be responsible for ensuring all who contact STTARS receive a
warm, respectful, and trauma-informed welcome and are assisted and directed
appropriately.
This position is worked across set days and hours: Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
This role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail,
and an ability to adjust based on competing priorities. A commitment to
consistently providing a high standard of work is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a warm, respectful, and trauma-informed welcome to all clients, visitors, interpreters, and stakeholders entering STTARS
- Respond to telephone, email, and in-person enquiries in a timely, confidential, and culturally sensitive manner
- Manage appointment bookings, confirmations, changes, and interpreter requests accurately in consultation with relevant staff
- Maintain the waiting room and reception area in a clean, calm, organised, and welcoming state
About You
You are organised, approachable, and committed to delivering respectful,
client-centred service. This role would be particularly well suited to someone
with a strong background in reception or front-of-house environments, such as a
medical receptionist or similar.
You will demonstrate:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A professional, calm, and empathetic manner
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office systems
- Knowledge of, or willingness to develop an understanding of, issues affecting refugees, asylum seekers, and people who have experienced torture and trauma

Employment Requirements

- A current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC), or willingness to obtain one
- A current and valid National Criminal History Check (Police Clearance), or willingness to obtain one

- Evidence of right to work in Australia
