POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Group Finance Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial health of the Stone Axe Group and is responsible for overseeing the transactional finance function of the business.

The primary responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Own day‑to‑day finance operations and lead a high‑performing team
  • Lead the financial month-end close process and deliver accurate, timely month end management accounts, Board and bank reporting
  • Manage treasury and business liquidity with accurate cashflow forecasting and disciplined working capital practices
  • Oversee statutory reporting, audits, governance and internal controls
  • Manage Tax compliance BAS, IAS and statutory reporting
  • Strengthen process, internal controls, policies, and governance
  • Help create and manage annual operating plans and reforecast processes
  • Provide commercial and operational insight to senior leadership
  • Analyse KPIs, ROI and business performance
  • Identify risks early and drive best‑practice financial discipline
  • Collaborate with other departments to support operational and strategic initiatives
  • Lead and mentor the transactional finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Solid understanding of management reporting, month-end and financial analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, tax compliance, and financial governance
  • Strong capability in Microsoft Office and Power BI
  • Experience with MYOB, or similar accounting systems
  • Experience managing statutory reporting, audits and financial controls
  • Curious with continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to prioritise workloads
  • Ability to work independently
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in team management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CA/CPA qualified or equivalent (essential).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance management, preferably within the protein, agriculture or FMCG sector.
