Purpose:
To undertake and supervise field operations (gardening) tasks to support with the completion of the company’s operations/projects in a timely manner, on budget, safely and to specification.
Key Responsibilities:
● Leading hand duties including the management of a small gardening team and the coordination and delegation of tasks to team members
● Handling of any health and safety matters as and when they arise and participating in toolbox talks
● Reporting of any issues on client sites to the main office
● Safely use and take care of powered equipment such as push on mower, zero turn ride on mowers, blower, whipper snipper, edging machines and rotary hoes.
● Undertake plant and lawn maintenance and development
● Accurately identify tree and shrubs
● Re-charging and re-fuelling of powered equipment
● Safe loading and unloading of Company truck
● Re-fuelling of Company truck as and when required
● Ensure the Company truck is re-stocked regularly and clean and free of rubbish on return to depot.
● Check that materials and equipment required for site work are available when required
● Contribute to the upkeep of electrical tagging of electrical equipment.
● Undertake routine duties such as:
○ Mowing of lawns
○ Removal of rubbish and/or green waste
○ Blowing of leaves
○ Edging of grass
○ Cutting of hedges
○ Cutting, pruning and shaping of plants and small trees
○ Weed poisoning
○ Use of manual secateurs
● Follow and understand Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) on sites
The above list is not exhaustive and you will be required to fulfil any other reasonable duties as required by management in order to meet the overall objectives of the company.
Skill and Competency:
● Customer service focused with a positive attitude and committed to providing exceptional customer service
● Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, varying communication style depending on the audience.
● Ability in leading, motivating and managing small teams
● Good understanding and ability to use computer and mobile phone apps such as Aroflo and Timestamp
● Willingness to assist and support others as required to achieve common goals.
● Proactive nature with an eye for detail and ability to use own initiative
● Ability to work under pressure, in a fast paced environment and accomplish objectives effectively within the timeframe given.
● Understanding of Dial Before You Dig
● Ability to drive a ‘light truck’ and trailer
● Experience and ability in manual handling tasks
● Willingness to travel and occasional overnight stays may be required
Qualifications:
● At least three year’s experience as a garden crew member/in grounds maintenance
● At least three year’s experience using powered equipment and hand tools
● Experience in horticulture
● Australian Driving License (Driving a light truck with a trailer is preferred)
● General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
● Asbestos Awareness Training
● Valid Police Check
